Introduction :

- Founded in 1999, Alliance India is a non-governmental organisation operating in partnership with civil society, government and communities to support sustained responses to HIV in India that protect rights and improve health.


- Complementing the Indian national programme, we build capacity, provide technical support and advocate to strengthen the delivery of effective, innovative, community-based HIV programmes to vulnerable populations affected by the epidemic.

- Alliance India manages an annual grant portfolio of appx US$14.43 million (2021-22) and works with nearly 350 community partners. It is an institution with significant national presence and influence working across 32 states and territories in India.


- In addition to serving as a key partner to the government, Alliance India is unique in its effective and extensive outreach and engagement with communities affected by the epidemic

- Alliance India has provided grant funding, capacity building, and technical support to 319+ NGOs and CBOs in India and delivered HIV services to 1.4 million people registered with our programmes.

Role :

- The Chief Executive (CE) plays an active role in overall management of the organization, providing vision, reinforcing values, and contributing to a culture of transparency, creative innovation, and excellence in all areas of work. The incumbent will ensure the active participation of key populations in decision making and maintain strong community engagements to keep their interests first.

- This position which is the replacement of the current position will continue the current delivery of effective programmatic, financial and organizational results for Alliance India. The CE develops, leads, and executes the organizational strategy while ensuring sustained and consistent growth of Alliance India's funding base. The successful candidate will have strong community experience, will connect strongly with the cause of HIV/AIDS, and will be an effective advocate for the communities served by the organization.

- He/she/they will be responsible for building and maintaining the program portfolio, overseeing quality execution, and ensuring diverse and sustainable income from a range of institutional, corporate, and individual donors.


- The successful candidate will have entrepreneurial skills and proven track record for identifying, engaging and developing new revenue streams and leading business development through engagement with entities in the public, private and non-profit sectors.


- The CE will cultivate long-term relationships with a variety of external partners and leverage those relationships to create new opportunities to deliver on Alliance India's mission

Must Haves :

- A master's degree in social sciences, economics, public health, management, human resource management and/or other disciplines like rural development or social work that support and enhance capacity to strengthen the response to the HIV/ AIDS epidemic in India

- Minimum 12 years of progressively responsible management experience in HIV/health programming with at least 5 years at senior management or executive position in a national/international organization addressing HIV or related issues.

- Experience in managing a grant portfolio of at least 10 million along with good knowledge of resource mobilization

- Demonstrated understanding of the negotiations needed to work along with the government and linked set ups

- An experience background of field work with various communities at ground level and the main aspect of engaging with them

- Understanding and past implementation of various compliances, regulatory discipline and audit process knowledge

Essential Behavioural Competencies :

- Leader with gravitas who is well reputed in the field and works very closely with communities

- Strong personal commitment to HIV, AIDS and sexual & reproductive health and rights

Preferable :

- Broad knowledge of HIV/AIDS programming at community-level; field experience is highly desirable

- Successful advocacy on key HIV/AIDS issues at a national or international level and proven leadership involvement in advocacy on key issues
