Job Description

Job Title: Publishing Manager - English

1. Job Purpose:

Responsible for publishing strategy for ELT in response to market needs.

Plan, develop, prioritize, implement and oversee the publishing process ensuring that books/products/solutions are published/released within set deadlines, as per the scope, according to the budget and are of the highest quality.

2. Principal Accountabilities

Publishing:

- Prepare publishing plans for ELT aligned with overall publishing strategy of the Education department.

- Oversee identification, commissioning and management of authors.

- Oversee development and production of the titles and solutions on schedule.

- Be aware of the budget and ensure cost effective resourcing for the list.

- Oversee project management of titles.

- Be aware of the digital requirements of the project.

- Work closely with the digital department to bring out innovative blended products.

- Conduct research, identifying new publishing opportunity and maintaining contacts.

- Manage contracts with the authors.

- Work closely with the rights and permissions team.

Mentoring and Supervision:

- Schedule and monitor progress of titles to ensure that books/solutions/products are published/released on time according to the Publishing Plan.

- Monitor editors to ensure that publishing processes and workflow are followed strictly.

- Review and improve publishing processes and workflow on the regular basis.

- Ensure adherence to company policies.

- Mentor and guide team members in publishing processes as well as overall career development.

- Be responsible for equitable work distribution in the team.

- Motivate team members to perform to the best of their ability

Relationship Building:

- Establish and maintain relationships that help Cambridge University Press keep an eye on the new trends in the publishing environment.

- Work together with the production and digital functions.

- Maintain healthy relations with the team as well as among the team members, so that the work environment is positive and invigorating.

- Collaborate with sales and marketing team for the active promotion of the books/products/solutions.

- Liaise with Human Resource in the recruitment and development of staff.

- Maintain mutually beneficial relationships with authors, teachers, content developers and freelancers.

Additional Duties:

To carry out any other duties which may be reasonably expected of you by your immediate manager or a senior director.

4. Knowledge & Experience:

- Combination of language, subject specialisation, technology skills and business acumen

- Demonstrate ability to design, develop, implement, manage and report in Publishing processes through KPIs and metrics

- Must have a Master's degree in English from a premium University

- Must typically possesses at least 8 years of relevant work experience

- Desirable to have a Master's Degree in Education
