About - Indian Music Experience Museum,

The Indian Music Experience Museum (IME) is India's first interactive music museum. Located in JP Nagar, Bengaluru, the IME is a non-profit initiative supported by the Brigade Group. The vision of the IME is to introduce the youth to the diversity of Indian music and to preserve India's rich musical heritage. The IME comprises hi-tech multimedia Exhibit Galleries, a Sound Garden, a Learning Centre for music education, and several performance spaces.

The IME's work spans across Exhibition, Conservation, Audience Development, Education and Community Outreach. Besides museum visits, the IME hosts a wide variety of public programs, both online and offline. In 2020, the IME presented a major centennial exhibition "Ravi Shankar@100: India's Global Musician" that explored the life and works of the sitar maestro. The IME is engaged in several community outreach initiatives, including Svarita that focuses on children from disadvantaged backgrounds, and Yuve in Culture, which engages with the youth community. What will you do?

1. Lead the strategic, programmatic, administrative, personnel and financial aspects of the Museum to deliver its mission of increasing the awareness and appreciation of Indian music and serving the community through music and arts.

2. Ensuring effective governance and management of all aspects of the organization and leading the museum successfully through the next phase of its growth and development.

3. Ensure financial strength and sustainability, with a particular focus on developing sustainable income streams / funding options.

4. Put in place all required systems for the Museum and the institution, including financial, administrative, regulatory compliance.

5. Foster a broad community and partnerships with a range of institutions

Core Responsibilities :

1. Strategy, vision, and policies: Lead the development of the museum's strategy, vision, and policies, working closely with the Board to define long and short-term strategic plans, annual and periodical work plans, monitoring and reporting on their progress. Develop / update policies.

2. Content and Programming: Lead the development and delivery of programmes of exhibitions, installations, and activities. This will include upgrades to existing galleries, as well as temporary and touring exhibitions, events, and other programs. Focus on outreach to schools, educational institutions and youth to ensure diversity of audiences.

3. Collections management: Lead the implementation of a collection strategy that covers development, documentation, conservation, storage, security, research access and display to ensure that the collected equipment are managed in accordance with internal standards.

4. Governance: Maintain a strong relationship between the museum and its Board of Trustees, advising the Board on all matters relating to the management, development, and forward planning for the museum. Prepare and present reports for trustees' meetings, annual reports and ensure that the museum complies with all relevant laws and regulations (e.g., Indian Trusts Act, tax law etc.)

5. Financial and business management: Will be responsible for the overall ongoing financial health of the museum, including developing and implementing a robust business model for the museum that includes both income generation and fundraising strategies to ensure financial resilience. Prepare an annual operating budget for approval by the Board and authorize operating expenditures to responsibly manage the museum's resources. Oversee all financial and accounting functions, including payroll, budgeting, timely billing, and payments etc.

6. Personnel management: Lead the museum's staff, inspiring and motivating them to deliver a world-class facility. This includes assigning and supervising work, fostering a positive and collaborative working culture, and looking into complaints and grievances. Recruit staff in line with approved plans and will ensure compliance with HR regulations.

7. Management of operations: Create a welcoming, vibrant, and sustainable venue that offers a high-quality visitor experience through day-to-day overview of the Museum and its performance. Ensure that all visitors get excellent experience, all written and verbal enquiries are dealt with appropriately, and that the museum's facilities are maintained and presented to a high standard.

8. Marketing and communications: Building museum's public profile, and driving footfall through focused, high quality, internal and external, marketing and communications activities.

9. Thought leadership: To be the museum's public face and key advocate.

10. Additionally, carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required by the Board of Trustees

Who are we looking for?

1. Experience in heading an institution focused on promoting cultural arts closely working with the society. (non-profit or cultural institutional experience preferred)

2. Experience in a similar creative, cultural organization, managing the institution.

3. The ability to create and deliver successful exhibitions and public programmes

4. Experience of audience development and delivering innovative programmes that appeal to diverse audiences

5. Demonstrated experience in strategic decision-making and operational excellence

6. Experience of working closely with the Board of Directors.

7. Experience operational finance, including budgeting and administration, fundraising
