Bajaj Electricals - Vertical Head - Legal - LLB/LLM (18-20 yrs)

Job Purpose : The role would be responsible to handle legal affairs, litigation, contract reviewing, legal documentation, corporate law, IPR matters and compliance issues.

This role also directly manages lawyers for key legal functions (a) Disputes and Litigation Management; (b) Contracts Management; (c) Intellectual Property Management; (d) Advisory etc. and indirectly manages rest of the legal team.

In addition to the above, this role also provides legal advisory to subsidiaries, associate entities etc. on critical issues.

Job Description :

A) Litigation / Disputes Management & Advisory :

Provide guidance and support to team to deliver responsibilities on matters related to Litigation matters:

a. Operational litigation / disputes management.

b. Drafting and vetting of pleadings, arguments and other documents.

c. Pre-litigation management (drafting and vetting notices, replies etc.).

d. Advisory on other litigious issues.

e. Drafting and management of relevant settlement discussions.

f. Coordination with law-firms and counsel.

g. Development and maintenance of trackers and other relevant reports.

h. Development of process of effective management of various aspects connected to disputes etc.

B) Contracts Management & Advisory:

Providing guidance and support to team to deliver responsibilities:

a. Development of Templates.

b. Drafting, vetting and negotiation of contracts.

c. Advisory on risks and inclusion of clauses to minimize risks.

d. Interact and collaborate closely with business partners / functions to ensure that relevant contracts address the requirements expected by the company.

e. Development of effective process of contract lifecycle including requests, approvals (and workflow), drafting, negotiation, stamping, execution etc.

C) Intellectual Property Management & Advisory:

Managing a team to deliver responsibilities related to:

a. Trade Marks: Revitalizing trademark protection of one of the most iconic brands 'Bajaj' in the relevant classes for Bajaj group in India and international markets. Ensuring trademark protection of other key brands / marks.

b. Inventions and Patents: Provision of effective advisory on inventions, drafting patents, etc. Moreover, legal further supports development of inventions etc. by providing deep guidance on inventions and white space advisory etc.

c. Design Protection: Provision of effective advisory on product designs, drafting and filing for design registrations, etc.

d. Actions (Litigations, Oppositions etc.): Filing various actions in support of Company IP including litigations, oppositions, anti-counterfeiting actions etc.

e. Advisory & IP Process Check-Point: Development and maintenance of checkpoints in various areas of company's operation to ensure risks of breach of third party IP are minimized including by carrying out searches (FTOs etc.) and sharing opinions.

D) Process Development / SoPs for Effectiveness and Efficiency of Legal Team:

a. This role is responsible for developing process etc. for: (a) ensuring / furthering management control on business deals; and (b) promoting efficient and effective management of disputes, contracts, intellectual property and advisory. This role is also responsible for developing reporting process and format of various legal activities to the management.

b. Develop awareness of various aspects including awareness on intellectual property, deal making / structuring, risk mitigation, litigious aspects etc.

E) Team Management :

a. Enhance capability of Team by hiring and developing right talent -

b. Manage performance, conduct reviews and provide feedback to team members -

c. Ensure strong collaboration among the team members

d. Function as a role model, provide critical inputs to provide direction and guidance to the team

Qualification: LLB /LLM


About 18-20 years of post-qualification experience managing varied legal aspects including litigation, contracts, intellectual property, advisory, regulatory / policy:

a. Experience of drafting and negotiating complex agreements.

b. Experience in managing litigations in-house. Some experience of practicing before courts in India is preferable.

c. Experience in regulatory matters.

d. Experience of managing a team of experienced lawyers with different skillsets.
