Director of Student Life

The Director of Student Life is an administrative role that supports the Head of School with the day-to-day running of the school. The Director of Student Life will lead, coordinate, or be involved in all student-facing activities of the school and will work to effectively execute these activities in partnership with other staff members and staff teams. The Director of Student Life also plays a role in ensuring a positive, healthy, and support culture among and between students.

Admissions

- Oversee the student admissions process

- Coordinate with other staff for the effective execution of the admissions process

- Serve as a single-point-of-contact for all admissions related queries

- Communicate to partners about the admissions process

- Plan and execute recruitment events

- Plan and execute effective strategies to increase the number of applications and quality of - applicants

- Coordinate entrance exams throughout the year

- Manage application review and processing

Student Life

- Oversee the designing, planning and execution of the enrichment and co-curricular program

- Oversee the designing, planning and execution of extra-curricular activities and programs for students (field trips, student retreats, service learning opportunities, etc.)

- Regularly gather feedback on the student-facing programs to improve them over time

- Supervise the Enrichment Coordinator

- Contribute to the designing, planning and execution of the advisory program

- Plan and co-facilitate student assemblies

- Design and implement school community exhibitions and celebrations to help build a culture of hard work, joyfulness and inclusion

- Serve on teacher team supervising Student Council

- Serve as the point person for staff committees overseeing student-facing activities

Student Discipline

- Instruct and advise students regarding their responsibility to adhere to school rules and policies, to foster a safe school environment, and to respect other individuals and property

- Ensure that consequences are clear, progressive, and communicated consistently to students, parents and school staff

- Conduct professional development on approaches to and routines, procedures, and consequences for discipline issues

- Ensure that Avasara students meet high expectations for attendance

Family Engagement

- Oversee regularly scheduled parent-teacher-student meetings

- Oversee school-wide family engagement structures

- Attend and support at-risk student conferences as needed

- Facilitate family meetings with teachers and families of students who persistently struggle to meet expectations

Residential Life: 

- Develop and document a medium to long term plan for the development of Avasara's residential life program.

- Create a safe space in the hostel for students to study, relax, and play

- Recruit, hire, train, coach and evaluate the residential staff

- Develop and monitor Residential Life activities

- Develop and maintain the Residential Life budget

Administrative Duties : 

- Supervise the School Registrar

- Make sure that the timetable is made accurately in a timely manner

- Ensure systems are in place to manage school equipment that is frequently used by students (laptops, speakers, etc.)

- Establish ways to collect feedback on student-facing activities and programs as well as student feedback on general school administration (food, transportation, etc.)

Desired experience and qualifications:

- M.A./M.Ed. degree or equivalent preferred.

- English language fluency is required.

- Proficiency in Hindi and/or Marathi.

- Experience creating and administering student programs.

- Experience with advisory and/or pastoral care programs.

- Experience with residential life programs.Experience of participating in teams and/or leading teams comprised of individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and national backgrounds.

- Experience with exceptional independent or international school programs.

- Clear track record of success in launching new initiatives, including long-term planning and project management.

- Current understanding of best practices in girls- residential high school programs.

- Experience using data to drive student-involved program development.
