Role Description:

Job Purpose: To manage all aspects of the imports process at Asian Paints (raw materials, finished goods, capital equipment etc.) including customs clearance, logistics, imports cost management etc.

Primary Responsibilities:

Business Responsibility Areas (Please detail out at least 8-10 responsibility areas):

Key Performance Indicators:

- To manage the entire customs clearance process from arrival of consignment at sea port/ airport till final delivery to APL destination. To liaise with the Custom House Agent (CHAs) appointed by APL to ensure smooth clearance of the consignment and with compliance to all customs regulations.

- To lead initiatives in the area of import cost management and implement innovative ways to optimize handling and reimbursement costs during clearance

- To execute the prompt clearance and dispatch of the containers from the port to the final destination to minimize the detention on the containers.

- To liaise with Corporate Taxation and maintain the correct chapter headings and duty percentages for all imported RMs so that the appropriate duty amounts are paid.

- To engage with Customs officials in cases of any disputes or to discuss issues or improvement areas in clearance

- To evaluate and make use of import duty savings schemes like DFIA, MEIS. SHIS etc. to avail of savings in customs duties wherever applicable.

- To partner with the CHAs to evaluate and implement initiatives to make the entire customs clearance process more effective from a cost and time perspective.

- To liaise with the Accounts payable team at SSC to ensure that the payments to the service providers (CHAs and freight providers) happen in a timely manner

- To ensure that the financial hygiene of the system e.g. quarterly provisions to be given, reconciliation of stocks at port etc. is maintained at all times

- To look at initiatives in the area of import logistics e.g. FOB incoterm, multi-modal movement of containers etc.

- Clearance times for full and part container consignments

- Custom clearance costs

- Detention paid but non- recoverable

- No non-compliances w.r.t. customs regulations during clearance

- DFIA/SHIS/MEIS Duty Savings

- Vendor Payment performance

Scope of Work:

a) Financial Scope (Range of financial spend):

- Annual value of Imported consignments is around Rs. 3000 crore

- Annual duty payment of Rs 600 crore+

- Directly responsible for annual costs of Rs 25-30 crore spent during the clearance process

b) People Management Scope (Range of no. of Direct/ Indirect Reports): Officer - Imports (3-4 nos.) directly report to this position

c) Geography Coverage (Country-wide/ State-wide / Area-wide): Country-wide

d) Corporate Coverage (Company-wide / Business Unit or Function-wide / Sub-function-wide / Other): Supply Chain (Decorative Business Unit)

Role Requirements / Specifications:

Qualifications:

Essential: PG diploma in Foreign Trade or Diploma in Export Import

Previous Experience:

Essential: Around 3-4 years- experience in a reputed organization having import/export operations and with touchpoints with the import/export functions

Desired: Handling or being closely involved with the customs clearance process for imports/exports

Functional Competencies:

- Knowledge of taxation w.r.t import-export,

- Working knowledge of customs regulations

Behavioral Competencies:

- Ability to take quick decisions with limited information

- Initiative-taking capabilities

- Ability to develop rapport and work closely with people from other functions

- Ability to effectively manage people in the team

Additional Requirements: Proficiency in MS Office and written and verbal communication
