Function Description:

Global Merchant Services is dedicated to bringing buyers and sellers together and transforming how American Express is welcomed. GMS Insights & Analytics aims to provide best in class analytics to support key GMS priorities, support strategic initiatives, optimize investments, accelerate merchant activation enhancing the value Amex acceptance brings to merchants and Card Members at scale. Merchant Marketing Analytics & Invest Optimization team provides data driven insights that inform Merchant marketing strategy through strategic data deep dives, targeting and measurement for all global market.

Purpose of the Role:

This position will report to Manager, Merchant Marketing and Investment Optimization Analytics and will lead execution of the project engagement from problem definition, data analysis/interpretation to develop the storyline with the insights/recommendations.


Our goal is setup Advanced Investment Optimization for GMS and achieve the following: 1) Setup consistent test & control, across campaigns/regions and translate behaviors into financial metrics, 2) build a centralized repository (dashboard) to enable a more automated and agile process and c) enable data-driven decision-making to further optimize investment allocations and maximize business impact.

Job Responsibilities:

- Utilize broad set of analytical tools/techniques for data mining, data cleansing, data extraction, analysis & transformation, data interpretation & insights, turn-key bundled analytic & reporting solutions

- Experience consulting with business owners and recommending appropriate solutions based on clear understanding of business needs

- Elevate and bolster our analytical suite and work in partnership with Merchant Marketing team to setup consistent test & control, across campaigns/regions and translate behaviors into financial metrics.

- Enable data-driven decision-making to further optimize investment allocations and maximize business impact

- Work on various in-house reporting tools to pull standard & custom reports

- Enhancing the data analytical and capabilities infrastructure

Qualifications/Functional Skills:

- Self-starter, ability to drive insights from data, provide action steps and drive results in a fast-paced environment

- Ability to drive business insights from the data and provide actionable steps

- Effective in written and verbal communication with partners located globally

- 0-3 years of experience of R/Python in a business environment

- 0-3 years of experience of SAS/SQL coding in a business environment (standard SAS/SQL functions, monitoring jobs, reviewing log files, macros)

- Experience with VBA / Tableau/Power BI is a plus

- Bachelor's in Information Technology/Computer Science/Engineering; Masters preferred

Technical Skills/Capabilities:

- Strong knowledge of skills like R/Python

- SAS/SQL coding in a business environment (standard SAS/SQL functions, monitoring jobs, reviewing log files, macros)

- Experience with VBA / Tableau/Power BI is a plus
