Actuarial Manager - Pension (2-8 yrs)

The key responsibility of the role is to work with UK-based teams to lead the delivery of client projects. The initial focus in the first year of the new team will be on the delivery of technical actuarial services and advice relating to the preparation and audit of pensions disclosures under IFRS, US GAAP and UK GAAP. You will have the opportunity to work on audits for some of the largest companies in the UK at a time when pensions is one of their biggest risks.

As the team grows, the range of services you will get involved in will quickly widen to include helping clients develop and implement their pension strategy or benefit schemes, consulting on how they should manage both liability and asset risks within their pension plans, negotiating with trustees on how to fund schemes, designing plans to help employees save for retirement and advising on potential mergers or acquisitions.

As a Manager or Senior Associate you will also contribute to coaching for junior members of our team. You will use your pensions knowledge within a wider commercial context, as part of a multi-disciplinary team including working alongside other professionals in our Covenant Advisory, Legal, and Reward & Employment teams.

The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to :

- Proactively managing a portfolio of clients and generally working to Managers and above within the UK-based teams.

- Establishing effective working relationships with appropriate levels of client staff.

- Taking a proactive role in the financial management of each client.

- Contributing to the development of personal and team knowledge.

- Staying up-to-date with changes in law and in the firm's products and services.

- Staying up-to-date with local and national business and economic issues that might potentially impact on clients and /or their industry.

Essential Skills & Experience :

- Alongside a strong academic background, you will be working towards (or have recently completed) an actuarial (IFoA) qualification.

- Relevant experience (ideally 2-5 years for a Senior Associate role or 5+ years for a Manager role), gained in an actuarial role

- Excellent team, organisational and communication skills

- Self-motivated

- The ability to work to tight deadlines effectively

- UK pensions experience

- Experience in preparing IFRS, UK GAAP or US GAAP pensions disclosures is preferred but not essential

- Progress with Actuarial exams will be a plus
