Quality Engineering Manager

- At Acquia, Quality Engineering drives the quality tool chain and process in an open and collaborative environment. To ensure that we have a repeatable process and systems to thoroughly test and uncover defects, quality engineering uses best of breed tools for automation and testing frameworks in conjunction with in-house tooling, infrastructure and services. Quality engineers are embedded in each agile development team to facilitate and lead the testing strategy, and test automation requirements for every iteration and release. The quality engineering team also regularly meets to review and improve overall testing processes, automation, innovations and best practices.

- The Quality Engineering Manager is a strong voice for quality that actively pursues quality improvements, reviewing code, overseeing new infrastructure and tests to support our fast paced, highly diversified engineering organization. In addition, he/she provides guidance for best practices and designs testing systems for smoke testing, behavioral testing, stress testing, performance testing, as well as supporting quality metrics.

- You will be leading a team of Quality Engineers and will be responsible for establishing and improving Quality Engineering standards, policies, processes, and training documentation to align with best practices and enterprise changes. In addition to ongoing management of the team, you will serve as a technical advisor to the Quality Engineers on the team and organize and coordinate their activities. You will work closely with Development Leads, Engineering Managers, Architects, Product Owners, DevOps Engineers and other stakeholders to ensure that the test automation, performance and security testing delivers value to Acquia and its customers.

Primary responsibilities:

- Own, maintain and govern QE best practices and tools

- Deliver product quality for our Drupal Cloud applications

- Manage and mentor members of a growing team, and promote effective teamwork

- Ensure adherence to Acquia's standards for product quality, security, and maintainability

- Drive QE best practices and processes within the engineering team, and identify areas for continuous improvement

- Improve and accelerate our Product and System Integration, Performance Engineering and Security testing practices

- Perform project-level staff planning to identify key/required skills and engineers

- Work closely with Project and Program Managers to ensure that program schedules are complete and committed to by the team

- Work closely with Scrum Masters and POs to ensure that all development activities occur in a timely manner and to the level of quality demanded by the business requirements

- Collaborate with cross-functional groups such as Support, Services, and Product Management to coordinate activities relating to customer issues, product installations, sales opportunities, and third-party vendors

- Organize and coordinate team, project, and release activities with the PMO, Product Managers and Engineering Leadership team

- Recruit and retain top talent

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline. Master's degree preferred.

- Proven ability in leading successful Quality Engineering teams

- In-depth experience with the full product development lifecycle

- Demonstrated ability to hire, mentor, and motivate top engineering talent

- 2-3 years programming experience in any of the web languages (go, php, ruby) or equivalent

- 5+ years of test automation development experience designing and building enterprise test automation solutions

- 3+ years of managing test automation and/or performance testing teams

- Solid understanding of testing tools, techniques, and methodologies

- Experience working in an agile Scrum product development organization

- Experience with continuous integration and build tools (i.e. Maven, Jenkins)

- Demonstrate knowledge of accepted QA methodologies, encompassing all facets of Quality Assurance.

- LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP) stack experience

- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to effectively interact with both internal teams and external customers and partners

Nice to have:

- Hands on experience with AWS/Azure/GCP/OpenStack

- Familiarity with open source software

- Experience with Kubernetes

- Linux OS system management experience

- Ubuntu, RHEL, Amazon Linux, etc.

- Operational knowledge of Drupal in a production setting
