Overall Purpose of the Job

The creative director guides all projects and is responsible for the overall quality of work produced by the creative department. Depending on industry focus and the company's needs, the creative director's role may shift. And while some creative directors take on a purely managerial role, others keep one foot in the trenches, helping to generate the big ideas and create concepts. But in most cases, the following responsibilities can be expected:

- Manage the creative process from concept to completion

- Translate marketing objectives into clear creative strategies

- Work closely with multidisciplinary project teams, particularly IT

- Lead and direct the creative team in the production of all marketing collateral

- Ensure visual communication and brand standards are met

- Oversee client pitches and proposals

- Oversee profitability, deliverables, timelines and budgets

- Meet with clients or upper management to explain campaign strategies and solutions

- Review work, troubleshoot and provide feedback to creative teams

- Remain actively involved in hiring and training creative staff

- Manage and cultivate the career development of staff members, including designers, art directors, copywriters, photographers and web developers

Competencies

Functional Skills:

- Minimum 10-15 years- experience in Marketing strategy as well as integrated, brand and digital communications. Specific skills required include:

- Interest in and aptitude for creative business and marketing solutions

- Highly motivated, with a proven track record of building clients and expansion of client account.

- Ability to identify strategic needs, lead all aspects of planning with sound business recommendations, and generate alignment with key business partners.

- Track record of experience managing and mentoring with high integrity and the ability to inspire other.

- Experience navigating large and complex organizations, including gaining access to key executives and stakeholders and successfully managing relationship building dynamics and processes

- Ability to manage multiple business initiatives in an entrepreneurial environment

- Expert knowledge of all functional agency departments, capabilities and service areas

- Deep understanding of a wide range of industries, markets and brands, and what it takes to stand out and service them

- Great project management abilities

Language Skills:

- Demonstrate strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

- Excellent presentation skills that encompass clear, compelling communications

Interpersonal Skills:

- Flexibility with schedule to meet client commitments, traveling as required to pursue business development

- Self-motivated and willing to expand knowledge

- Ability to self-manage while managing assigned teams and projects.

Technical Skills:

- Expertise in all major business software applications (Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, etc.)

- Basic technical understanding of HTML, XHTML, CSS, Java, web publishing, Flash, etc.

- Fluency in web analytics tools (Adobe Omniture, Google Analytics), social media marketing applications (Hootsuite, Tweet deck, etc.) and leading social media monitoring platforms (Radian6, Brand Watch etc.)

- Proficient in presentation (Vision and PowerPoint)

- Ability to upskill to learn about the latest platforms, technology, tools and marketing solutions

Academics:

- MBA preferred, or Masters in Business or Marketing, commensurate experience in building agency client portfolios
