VP - Change Delivery - Bank (10-18 yrs)

The VP Change Delivery role is in support of the Regional Change Delivery Senior Portfolio Manager and acts in the capacity of trusted advisor to region’s Head of Change Delivery and senior management in lines of business The jobholder is directly and actively managing a sub-set of Change Delivery’s portfolio whether or not aligned to a business / proposition / transformation theme e.g. Collections, Cards, Wealth, One Head Office, etc.

This role supports well-reasoned decisions in matters of strategic, organizational, operational, and technological investment and alignment, it provides proactive consultancy services at various points of the Change the Bank pipeline management and execution through ensuring:

- Portfolio of projects and programmes is focused, balanced, aligned to strategy and investment is spent effectively across a portfolio of change

- Active management of the portfolio including prioritization of change the bank activity across the region

- Proper governance, monitoring and review of business cases is also a key purpose of the role

- Visibility of progress, issues/problems and failure, making the most of scarce senior manager’s time.

- Consistency of review traffic lights through scrutiny and challenge for enhanced predictability of delivery in terms of time, cost and requirements –leading to better resource management and relationships with business

- Reduced start-up/mobilization timescales saving money and maintaining the interest of key stakeholders.

- Consistency of approach and delivery in line with Group standards

- Clarity of decision making, escalation rules and routes (for risks, issues and changes) leads to faster and appropriate decision making and an emphasis on empowerment

- Consistent stakeholder engagement and information management and reporting

- Identification of best practices and dissemination

The VP Change Delivery will also contribute to the development of the Change Delivery function to improve its performance.

Potentially [depending on the organization structure] the role includes management of the Change Delivery pool of resources.

The jobholder has to have a combined set of excellent interpersonal skills, business, operations and technology knowledge combined with strong knowledge of the project/programme lifecycle and financial acumen in order to develop effective relationship with the business and provide sound consultancy that adds commercial values to the business and the CTSO function.

He/she has to rapidly build relationships with key stakeholders and be able to work effectively across cultures and in a matrix organization. He/she must demonstrate strong business knowledge and sound business sense, and stay abreast of the industry, business-wise and technology-wise.

The jobholder must have the capacity to articulate the case for investments and alternatives in the language of business to facilitate the Change agenda of the Bank.

Other challenges include:

- Driving and controlling the direction of a diverse portfolio change activities while ensuring synergy with the strategic aims of bank.

- Effectively directing and controlling the activities of a not clearly defined pool of resources which are spread across the organisation and not under the direct control of the jobholder or direct senior management

- Dealing with significant ambiguity, have strong change management skills, very strong communicator at all levels, networking and strong influencing skills to be able to direct activity of areas of the Bank which are not under direct control.

- Managing conflict and resistance inherent to managing change whilst ensuring continued commitment and buy-in from key stakeholders

- Providing guidance and support to subordinate project managers and senior project managers in resolution of project and personnel issues.

The job is a major point of contact between the business and HTS. The jobholder works independently and has high level of flexibility to consult with business at the Senior Management level. Being an Individual Contributor, he/she will need to have the ability to work closely with and get support from IT Development, Operations, Information Security and Planning and Finance arms of the organization regionally and in some cases globally.

The job-holder will be expected to work autonomously in prioritising, selecting and driving change programmes working within the guidelines established by the core programme but tailoring these to suit local business demands. The jobholder will have a high degree of individual responsibility in managing this global /local trade-off.

The value of this role should not be measured by the size of the team, but by the impact the team is expected to deliver. Overall, the programme is expected to deliver > USD 2 bn per annum of value to the Bank and the change delivery teams will be critical in ensuring that the appropriate share of this value is realized. Directly managed teams will deliberately be established as small teams of highly skilled, highly motivated change agents who will work as catalysts with the business partners to aggressively drive change. Multiple projects/programmes will be managed in parallel each of which will involve matrix management across global, regional, and in-country teams. Portfolio would typically aim to deliver value in the USD 10 – 30 million range.

Qualifications

- Typically qualifications would include an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Science, Business Administration or a related field. MBA would be a plus.

Experience

- The VP – Change Delivery must have numerous years of diverse experience and a variety of skills related to managing change, programmes or projects, consulting or process reengineering engagements

- Exceptional contributor with proven track record as an outstanding consultant (change management or business transformation) or a project/programme manager

- Overall financial services industry knowledge with specific functional expertise

- A board knowledge of Target Business and Operating Models

- Production of baseline or business case (bottom-up & to-down)

- Understands how technology adds value to the business and to the end customer

- Demonstrated ability to rapidly build relationships with key stakeholders

- Working across cultures and in matrixes organisational structure

- Successful change management and staff management (direct and indirect)

- Navigating – understanding and translating Change Delivery strategy into own team and aligning directions accordingly

- Aspiring – being ambitious about providing the highest standards of delivery and embedding them in the team

- Driving – setting stretching goals for self and team and delivering them with courage and tenacity

Professional standards (skills and behaviours)

- Strong Financial and accounting acumen: business case definition, KPI setting through to benefit realization

- Basic knowledge of portfolio management theory

- Exposure to the change process, project lifecycle and consulting tools and techniques, reengineering methodologies (e.g. Prince2, PMP, Six Sigma, Lean…)

- Excellent knowledge of HBSC methods (RBPM) processes and tools (e.g Clarity)

- Very strong analytical skills

- Proven ability to prioritise competing demands

- Good working knowledge of functional area in an operational or consulting capacity

- Understands the global strategies of IT, Service Delivery and the Group and collaborates with the business at a global level to accomplish these strategies

- Excellent English written & verbal communication skills, other languages an advantage

- Communication and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to articulate the case for investments and alternatives in the language of business

- Should have strong negotiation, influence, mediation and conflict management skills
