VP - Software Engineering

For one of our clients, we are seeking an inspiring leader to recruit, coach, mentor, inspire, retain and manage performance for a team of over 20 software developers and senior managers/managers based in Bangalore (Team size projected to double in the next 12-18 months)

A few things this person will be responsible for :

- Develop world-class software products, drive innovation into the product roadmap and development processes, while working closely with the senior engineering and software design leadership team and members of product management.

- Manage software development for enterprise grade, B to B, software technology product lines with high transaction volume capacity and leveraging advanced analytics and automation.

- Lead the delivery and evolution of solutions and innovative user experiences with the highest level of reliability, security, and scalability.

- Help ensure that product architecture and technology decisions provided by the CTO and software architects support corporate strategies and future direction of the products.

- Within an Agile framework, work closely with your engineering team and project management to ensure that projects are accurately tracked and corrective action is taken when required to keep projects on schedule and within budget.

- Drive the team as a technical innovator by understanding the application portfolio (both technically and functionally), the company's needs, competition, and new markets.

- Continuously appraise effectiveness of software development organization through objective metrics and chart courses for improvement.

- Lead the hiring of engineering and related talent to build core platforms and systems.

- Hire, train, mentor and manage the software engineering department.

- Work with product management and marketing to produce the product roadmap, whitepapers and competitive analysis.

- Provide excellent, clear documentation and input for marketing, product management, and sales training materials.

The kind of person my client is looking for :

Experience :

- Proven delivery of excellent, successful, innovative, B to B, enterprise grade software product(s).

- Must have managed a team of at least 50 software developers and related staff (e.g., project managers, QA, etc.).

- Extensive exposure to one or more of the following business domains: Banking / eCommerce / Manufacturing / Retail.

- Direct software development experience earlier in your career.

Technologies :

- Should be familiar with Unix based operating systems such as Linux, AIX, Solaris & HPUX.

- Should be familiar with any one of the databases such as MySQL, Oracle, MSSQL Server

- Should be able to create and run database SQL queries.

- Must be able to gather requirements from customers and translate it into clear process documents

- Shell scripting / automation

- Preferably worked on Automation Tools like CA Autosys, HP BSM, BMC Control-M, Cisco Tidal

- Being a world class IT Operations trouble shooter is a plus !

Operating System :

Any Unix/Linux Platform, windows Platform

Soft Skills :

- Leadership, Vision/ Technology Strategy, People Management, Organizational Development, Execution, Execution, Execution (Wait, did we say Execution- !)

- Should be a HUGE team player
