Business Context and Main Purpose of the Job :

- We want to leverage the Mulesoft platform to support key Digital Transformation initiatives in Unilever worldwide.

- As part of the Adaptive Integration DevOps capability development and C4E (Center for Enablement) strategy we are building a strong in-house capability accountable for leading the organisation to take an API led connectivity approach.

- We are fully committed to following an API first approach in order to build an - agility layer- . This layer will provide the digital building block framework required to rapidly scale to meet business initiatives.

- You are expected to be relentlessly focused on an API first adoption and evangelizing the business benefits of that approach.

- The API architect is owning the API lifecycle framework and it's evolution to meet tactical and strategic objectives of the business. The API architect acts as the primary point of contact for API led connectivity for global, strategic programs in Marketing, R&D, Digital Employee, Customer Development etc. API led Connectivity cuts across the whole Unilever business and organization.

Main Accountabilities :

- Own the API lifecycle framework and it's continuous evolution to support new business initiatives as well as adapt to evolving architecture and technology standards

- Build internal intellectual property around platform features and roadmap, including acting as a point of reference for Platform APIs Interface with Unilever platform spokes/business lines to provide technical design assistance for key programme initiatives, mapping platform capabilities to solution architecture requirements

- Ensure project and business requirements are understood and actively support the relevant teams to meet them

- Take responsibility for designing end 2 end API architectures

- Identify architectural challenges and risks, pro-actively suggest ways to address them

- Regularly interact with vendor product management to communicate on API related capability gaps/enhancements

- Hands on prototyping of API's using RAML

- Guide developers and architects through all relevant stages of an API lifecycle / program

- Actively drive platform adoption through continuous improvement of the processes, standards, policies, working methods, and tools working closely with DevOps practice

Critical success Factors for the Job :

Key Skills :

- Self-sufficient individual who has practical hands on experience, is proactive and leads by example of excellence

- Passion for technology with detailed understanding of existing and emerging technologies.

Technically competent with previous hands-on experience of entire software development lifecycle, including but not limited to the following aspects :

- RAML

- Integration patterns: SOA, ESB and MOM (message oriented middleware)

- Continuous Integration/Continuous Development

- Java

- Good knowledge of REST and SOAP web services

- Ability to explain technical issues to a variety of audiences, including enterprise architects and experienced software developers/architects

- Good knowledge of SDLC methodologies, such as waterfall, agile (scrum or kanban)

- Strong presentation skills with a high degree of comfort delivering to both large and small audiences

- Mentor and support Technical Specialists across the IT and business technology landscape

- Good knowledge of Cloud platforms, features and capabilities

Critical Experience :

- Solid experience within a technical environment performing technical design and architecture roles across technical domains.

- Previous exposure to MuleSoft technology from both development and operations perspective

- Oversight experience on major transformation projects and successful transitions to implementation support teams

- Experience with agile project delivery including continuous integration

- Experience of working as a technical lead developing platform components

- Experience in contributing to and enforcing technical policies, procedures and standards

Knowledge & Experience :

Previous Role :

- For example, API architect, Platform specialist, Technical Architect

Release Management Knowledge : Waterfall, Agile, DevOps models

External Knowledge : Certification from Mulesoft or other Integration Platform vendors such as IBM, Dell, etc
