Travelex - AVP - Finance Operations & Reconciliations (10-15 yrs)

Role purpose :

Travelex, the word leader in providing foreign currency, is looking for qualified candidate candidates to join its Shared Service Finance and Accounting team in Mumbai, India as AVP. The AVP is a direct report into Head of Finance India and is responsible for quality and timely finance, accounting and reconciliation services to its customers and develop a culture that embraces change / continuous improvement.

Specifically, the candidate would be responsible to manage a team of people in Finance Shared Services that provide controllership, reconciliation and other back office activities for the Travelex businesses supported out of Mumbai

- North America Retail / Wholesale and Partners

- EMEA Retail

- UK Retail and Supermarkets

- UK Wholesale and Partnership

- UK and EMEA ATM

Key accountabilities :

The selected candidate will be a key contributor to improving the quality of service and the financial reporting. The candidate will be responsible to drive the necessary changes across and upskill the related teams, plus maximize opportunities to offshore certain roles to deliver targeted cost savings.

This is a key leadership role in the Finance Share Service team responsible to :

- Manage a team of controllers and managers (approx. headcount 70) that :

- Delivers the daily, monthly and end year close process to meet both group and external reporting deadlines

- Contract administration to ensure 3rd party payments and reporting requirements are made timely and accurately; i.e. rents, commissions, rebates and joint venture

- Responsible for the balance sheets for all entities under their remit and ensures all accounts are reconciled timely and in accordance with company policy

- Completes the annual group and statutory audits per standards and agreed upon due dates

- Develops and manages a robust process and control environment that ensures all key controls are completed in accordance with policies and on time

- Manages the daily transactional reconciliations of cash and product movement and ensures aged items are actioned upon timely to minimize the risk of financial loss to the company

- Measure and deliver activities against agreed upon service levels standards for both internal and external customers

- Should have managed transitions of 30+ FTE in the past

- Maintain a record of Finance activities and the split of responsibilities between business, shared services and RSA/other Finance teams, and recommend improvements to drive a streamlined and standardized roles / responsibilities to ensure clarity over across all teams

- Ensure their team operates within an internal control and compliance framework and that sufficient controls are maintained to mitigate risk by:

- Adhering to Group mandated accounting standards, policy and procedures

- Creating, documenting and maintaining and following standardised processes

- Ensure all processes operate in accordance with the internal control framework

- Maintain close relationships with internal and external customer/stakeholder groups that ensure a responsiveness to their needs and escalation to resolution of performance problems

- Lead, identify, participate in and support process improvement initiatives to drive efficiency, standardization and cost savings across the team. This includes assigning team members to ensure quality and timely delivery

- Define the internal control environment and key controls, and ensure compliance with in team

- Proactively come up recommendations to improve systems and procedures, and initiate corrective actions

- Work on projects and/or assign projects and direct staff to ensure quality and timely delivery

Communication :

- Responsible for pro-active and regular communication with other areas of Finance and the business in relation to customer billing

- Actively communicate and seek feedback from colleagues and customers

- Communicate daily and weekly delivery performance levels to your team

- Ensure feedback to line manager outlining general activities of role and - how we are doing-

Experience and personal qualities :

- Qualified Chartered /Cost accountant, with a degree in accounting or business preferred

- 10+ year of professional experience with proven ability to direct and supervise a large team.

- Prior finance shared service experience that focussed on performance measurements and with on/offshore presence is a plus

- Proven knowledge of IFRS and other local GAAP accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations

- Experience of working in fast paced / Global finance department

- High attention to detail and accuracy

- Proven ability to drive continuous improvement agenda to improve quality and reduce costs

- Provides thought leadership to shape future decisions

- Focuses on creating value for the business

- Adapts to changing objectives and priorities to deliver results

- Clearly communicates the company missions and values

- Self-disciplined with ability to work independently and under stress and pressure, target and result driven, energetic and driven with a real hands on approach to the job

Travel :

Domestic and international travel required up to 25%.
