Policy Analyst for Member of Legislative Assembly
Summary :
- A senior Member of Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra is seeking distinguished candidates for the position of Analyst for his parliamentary office.
- The Analyst will aid and advise the Member on matters of State and National policy along with legislative issues.
- The Analyst will report to the Chief of Staff to the Member and will also be responsible for other day-to-day activities of the Member's office.
Essential Job Functions :
- Provide background research and briefings on current socio-political issues in the State of Maharashtra
- Analyze and summarize legislative proposals and bills introduced in the Legislative Assembly and provide relevant research material
- Analyze the State Budgets and Finances for effective intervention by the Member in the Assembly and Committees
- Assist the Member in his day-to-day functions in the Assembly
- Research and provide periodic position papers on State/National issues based on directions from the Member
- Identify and analyze issues related to the Assembly Constituency of the Member and prepare action plans to address the pertinent issues
- Collect and analyze socio-economic and human development data for the Constituency
- Interface with constituents and ground-level workers and co-ordinate functioning with the office of the Member
- Draft text for speeches, public talks and articles as required by the Member
- Interface with media as and when required by the Chief of Staff for the Member
- Act as the Member's principal liaison and responds to office visits and telephone inquiries from constituents and various interest groups
- Maintain a good working relationship with the Member, Chief of Staff, and constituents
- Other activities as directed by the Member or his Chief of Staff
Education/Experience :
- A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Engineering/Management/Law/Economics is required. A Masters Degree in Public Policy/Administration or related fields is highly desirable.
- Candidates with consistently strong academic credentials would be preferred.
- Prior work experience of working in and keen interest in development policy, legislatures or public administration would be preferred.
- Excellent command over English and Marathi is required. Candidates based out of Mumbai are especially encouraged to apply.
Skills And Knowledge Required :
- Knowledge of legislative process and parliamentary practice
- Good knowledge of socio-economic situation and policy ecosystem in Maharashtra and India
- Critical mind and strong research skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong command over oral and written English and Marathi
- Strong leadership skills
- Good people skills and willingness to learn
Terms of Employment :
- Analyst will be normally based out of an office in Mumbai with occasional travel around Maharashtra (specifically Western Maharashtra)
- Office environment will include a small work station and open floor plan
- Office hours and daily tasks will vary and require flexibility
- Competitive compensation as per industry standard would be offered based on background and experience
