Research Director - Middle East Construction Intelligence (12-25 yrs)

The Research Director is responsible for developing and implementing a research and publishing strategy for the Middle East construction industry that serves the organizations various business intelligence product offerings.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Research Director must operate in line with management directives and operate in accordance with the Company's Procedures, Policies, Standards and Quality Management System. The operational responsibilities of this position include:

Leadership & Training

1. Serving as the senior-most front-line leader of a business intelligence team responsible for the complete data management process that spans data acquisition, analysis and publication of construction industry specific intelligence.

2. Building a world-class research team that comprises of direct recruits and a network of sub-contractors and free-lance professionals.

3. Ensuring a people-centric, process-driven operation that consistently delivers a suite of high quality business intelligence products within budget and on time.

4. Participate as a member of the senior management team in establishing governance processes to ensure that objectives are achieved, risks are managed and the organization’s resources are used responsibly.

Research & Analysis

1. Establishing research standards and guidelines and ensuring adherence to them.

2. Developing, managing and constantly improving data acquisition processes in accordance with ISO 9001.

3. Managing and maintaining relationships with key industry sources including leading engineering and contracting firms, government and media houses to acquire and generate market intelligence.

4. Monitoring, identifying and analyzing socio-economic behavior and market trends as they pertain to the construction industry.

5. Anticipating and reacting to major changes to ensure the maintenance of company leadership in the competitive market research & media landscape.

6. Implementing industry best practices and technologies to improve efficiencies.

Presentation & Publication

1. Serving as the Chief Editor for all published content.

2. Delivering business intelligence content through the various digital mediums.

3. Compiling research databases, industry reports and market research studies.

4. Strategically utilizing social media to deliver content.

5. Presenting industry analysis at conferences and seminars as well as participation is panel discussions.
General Management 1. Managing an annual operating and capital budget for the research function. 2. Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/QUALITIES:

Industry Knowledge

A comprehensive in-depth understanding of the inner workings of the construction industry, particularly in relation to the project development cycle.

Industry depth in specific sectors such as Power, Oil & Gas, Hospitality etc.

The ideal candidate will have an existing network of senior relationships within the construction industry in the Middle East.

Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and ideally Arabic as well.

Strong design and presentation skills.

Statistic and macro-economic analysis.

Familiarity and experience in using software and social media in particular to streamline the research process.

Aptitude to understand technical subjects pertaining to mechanical, civil and electrical engineering.

This position requires an energetic, intelligent and proactive leader that demonstrates a high standard of
professional integrity and has the ability to actively communicate, inspire and motivate the team that he leads

EXPERIENCE

Minimum 15 years experience in a management position in the area of industry research.

A proven track record of setting up and successfully managing a multi-cultural research team.

Experience with operating within an ISO 9001 system and in line with international/regional research and publishing policies and standards.

A track record of publishing research reports and industry analysis and with presenting industry reports and analysis to industry audiences at seminars and conferences.

Online or print publishing experience with construction industry publications.
