Research Analyst - Corporate Finance

DEPARTMENT: Corporate Finance Practice

REPORTS TO: Research Manager

LOCATION: Gurgaon, India

The Corporate Performance Center (CPC) of the Company brings together leading finance experts and leading strategists to help our clients map corporate strategy to financial market performance. Based in New York, Munich, Amsterdam, and Gurgaon, the CPC is part of Companies’ worldwide Corporate Finance practice.

With shareholder value creation as corporate goal, our competence in financial analysis is a critical part of Company’s discussions with CEOs and CFOs of major corporations about strategy and M&A. The analyses conducted by the CPC have also been used in numerous publications including Dick Foster’s best selling business book Creative Destruction, the Harvard Business Review, the McKinsey Quarterly, and McKinsey on Finance.

Role of Research Analyst

Research analysts articulate, scope, and prioritize research needs, and identify and gather relevant information using a broad spectrum of appropriate sources. They also provide synthesis, insight, and practical implications within tight deadlines, via end products in the form of written summaries, financial models, basic fact packs, and spreadsheets and serve as a thought partner, who can both engage in team problem solving and contribute to knowledge creation initiatives.

Career Path

As Research analysts, he/she will develop a solid grounding in core principles of corporate finance. As career evolves, he/she may become a Senior analyst and develop deep insights into corporate finance issues. You also start working with CPC specialists, Experts and Senior leaders of the practice to help McKinsey teams identify and evaluate critical financial and strategic issues for discussions with senior client executives, and also spend some time working directly on client engagements.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate for this role will be an entrepreneurial self-starter who enjoys the challenges and rewards of research work in a dynamic and changing environment. Strong interest in Corporate Finance and demonstrated finance or accounting experience in an academic or business setting is preferred.

Moreover, you will possess an postgraduate degree (business, economics or finance preferred) from a highly respected institution, plus strong intrinsic capabilities:

- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and quantitative skills, as well as curiosity and a passion for research;

- Superb people skills, strong team-orientation, and a professional attitude;

- Excellent communication skills – including the ability to interact effectively at all levels of a large international organization.
