Objective of Role: To lead the supply chain function and ensure that logistic function is carried on smoothly and efficiently in the organization.  Job Responsibilities:  Supply Chain Function :  - Lead & provide functional direction to all functions of SCM operations for effective management of Customer Order Management, Sourcing, Planning, Procurement, Logistics, Warehouse & Distribution Management, Stat. Compliances, Plant Stores Mgt and Import Export Management.  - Develop a strategy that addresses customer requirements, procurement, distribution, transportation strategies, outsourcing strategies, cash flow requirements, and supply chain operations performance.  - To ensure that the Logistics Strategy is linked with the business strategy to a distribution approach and should support the overall goals of the organization (e.g., customer service, low costs, minimum inventory, low overheads, leverage of the supply chain, channels/markets, etc  - To define the service and logistical requirements of the major customer groups. Identify customer needs such as expected order fulfillment cycle time, handling requirements (i.e., cold or dry storage), delivery requirements and special service needs.  To define the locations and roles of the logistics network components - manufacturing facilities, warehouse, distribution centers, cross-docks, etc.   - Using decisions defined while developing procurement, production, and sales strategies, select the warehousing and shipment locations desired to optimize efficiency and to minimize storage, handling, and transportation costs.  - Select a material receiving and transportation policy addressing the critical issues like Owned vs. leased facilities, third-party vs. internally managed; Packaging requirements, Labeling requirements, Quality standards and inspection procedures.  - Determine the material storage and handling strategy based on estimated production volume, stocking levels, and material storage requirements.  - Plan material flow throughout the organization. Areas for material to flow include: incoming material arrival, quality inspection, stores or warehouse stock, scrap areas, production floor, finished goods, shipping area, etc.  - Preparation of logistics budget conducting the variance analysis to identify deviation between actual and estimated expenses.  Manage Vendor :  - To Manage and monitor all the vendors Shipping companies, carriers, transporters, clearing agents and other government departments for ensuring zero bottlenecks in the supply chain.  - Responsible for negotiating with transporters and shippers for getting minimum and competitive freight.  - Establish carrier monitoring, track performance. Take appropriate action to handle issues.  People Management:  - To train & develop the logistics team for smooth functioning of the logistic department and update the team with best in class operations.  - Identifying capability gaps and Planning, Implementing to build necessary capabilities to meet Profit plan & Strategic Plan Goals.  - Critically analyze and work closely with business analysts and functional heads for improving design and implementation of logistics/ supply chain operations for imports, exports and domestic requirements  - Coordinate and train the internal business team for educating them with respect to logistics intricacies, cost implications and time factor.  Education : (UG - Any Graduate - Any Specialization) AND (PG- Any Post Graduate - Any Specialization) AND (Doctorate- Any Doctorate - Any Specialization, Doctorate Not Required)  Supply Chain Expert :   - Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of production function beyond own specialty and implements the expertise whenever required.  - Knowledge of Biofuel/Biodiesel industry and related industries and its supply chain operations would be preferable.  - Seen as expert in own area both internally and externally; have well developed external network.  - Links supply chain policies and programs to the organizations mission & service outcomes, service deadlines etc.  - Cost Consciousness  - Implements, formulates and develops all strategies that are achievable, cost-effective, and address organizational goals   - Develops procedures that are cost effective and does long term planning for cost consciousness.   - Ensures implementation of scientific methodologies for efficiency in costing, efficiency in operations etc.  - Demonstrates vision, and innovative thinking to expand the development of policies and procedures   - Understands the change impact of policies and procedures to people, department, the System and external entities.  Vendor Management :  - Creates, maintains cordial relations with all vendors, suppliers of services and material.  - Is instrumental in ensuring meeting deadline, crisis management.  - Ensures trouble shooting at any bottleneck during the supply chain process.   - Ensures all legal and statutory requirements are met and adherence by the vendors to agreements.  - Organizational Communications and networking  - Collaborates across internal and external agency boundaries to meet common objectives.  - Participates in cross-functional activities to achieve organizational objectives.  - Ensures that important information from management is shared with employees and others as appropriate.  - Ensures that regular, consistent, transparent communication takes place within area of responsibility.  - Works with employees to set and communicate performance standards that are specific and measurable.  - Managing Performance  - Sets clear goals for the employees and the work unit.  - Establishes and maintains formal and informal methods to track employees' progress and performance (e.g., status reports, managing by walking around).  - Develops performance expectations and performance agreements with direct reports.
