MSCI - VP - Financial Controller

POSITION OVERVIEW:

- Reporting into the London-based COO/CIO FD, this senior position will play an integral role in advancing the financial management capability of the organization, across the operations and technology functions. Specifically, the individual will assist the finance director across application development, data infrastructure, research, IT and operations.

RESPONSIBLITIES:

Provide effective and robust decision support to COO/CIO functional managers

- Develop traditional investment appraisal techniques, working with BMUs to build robust business cases

- Embed a rigorous discipline around cost analysis, working closely with the businesses to drive rigour in decision-making on cost issues

- Develop and maintain strong relationships with functional leaders to understand their service requirements Own and manage service charging/allocation for COO/CIO

- Build capability to support BMU structure and drive cost transparency in product line P&Ls Manage monthly reporting to functional managers

- Embed fit for purpose reporting to allow managers to gain insight into historical performance and influence future activity

Drive a more effective budgeting & forecasting process leveraging insight into the cost base

- balance top down simplicity with bottom detail

- provide transparency to BMUs on COO/CIO services

- support system development

Take accountability for control and approval processes for cost base

- Drive efficiency in process across constituents across the end to end process

Manage & lead team in Mumbai

- Motivate and inspire newly built COO/CIO team; coach where appropriate

- Work closely with the wider finance team in Mumbai and globally to instil a strong cost management ethos across the finance organisation

- Senior leaders within infrastructure e.g. Global Head of Infrastructure, Operations and Technology managers

- Wider finance team, e.g. financial reporting, accounting policy, FP & A, tax etc.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

- Professional accounting designation

- Substantial financial management experience in broad managerial roles; experience in IT financial control and planning is desirable

- Process driven; ability to embed process and standards in a growing company

- Prepared to roll sleeves up and get hands dirty

- Ability to cope in a fast changing environment

- Experience of / exposure to large change / project management initiatives

- Experience would also ideally encompass strategic and operational cost planning, budgeting and financial management, and performance measurement

- Knowledge of financial data industry will be considered an asset, though not essential; experience gained within organisations with large IT budgets, where IT has strong strategic importance, is ideal;

- Experience of operating in a global and highly matrixed corporate environment

- Good written and oral presentation skills

- Strong client and relationship management skills

- A service-oriented approach with a demonstrated sense of urgency

- Strong leadership skills & team management

- Broad understanding of the financial services sector – investment banking, asset management, hedge funds, trading and technology etc. – desirable but not essential
