Position Description:

- The Senior Agricultural Sustainability Analyst has responsibility for performing a wide range of technical and economic analyses related to the production, conversion, use, and disposal of agricultural products and other biomaterials, as requested by Monsanto’s Corporate Engagement Team.

- The key challenge of this role involves integrating knowledge from a wide variety of sources, performing critical analysis of information and trends, and providing the appropriate conclusions to key stakeholders.

Specific responsibilities:

- Prepare cogent written and graphical materials that are thoroughly referenced and suitable for influencing Monsanto’s technical and business development efforts.

- Analyze key global agricultural trends, including but not limited to land utilization, biotech acceptance, trade, and yield. Synthesize results to predict future trends.

- Locate, evaluate, and interpret data on the sustainability of various agricultural products and processes. Assess “sustainability” as defined by various national and international sustainability frameworks.

- Identify the sustainability goals and metrics adopted by various organizations, such as food manufacturers and food retailers, the strategies being used to achieve those goals, and the potential impact of those actions on Monsanto and its customer base.

- Assess the financial and environmental impacts of adopting specific sustainability practices, protocols, and systems.

- Monitor the scientific literature, government reports, and other reliable source materials for credible information on the impact of biotechnology, and in particular genetic modification, on the affordability, nutritional value, and environmental and human health effects of food production and consumption.

- Perform other analyses and prepare other communications materials, as directed by the Corporate Engagement Team at Monsanto.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s or higher level degrees in engineering (preferably chemical or biochemical) and business/economics. (A PhD is preferred but not required.)

- Five or more years of relevant work experience, preferably in consulting, engineering project management, manufacturing process engineering, and/or financial analysis. Experience in agricultural economics or food processing is a plus.

- Strong results-orientation and the ability to execute multiple diverse projects, balance priorities, and consistently meet deadlines.

- Demonstrated aptitude for on-line searching, patent searching, text and data mining, data visualization, and proficiency with data analysis tools.

- Detail-oriented, diligent recordkeeping, and high ethical standards.

- Excellent organizational and interpersonal relationship skills; able to work independently and collaboratively. Comfortable influencing others without direct organizational authority.

- Fluent in English, with strong written and oral communication skills.
