Menterra Venture Advisors seeks to hire an Investment Associate with a role focused on the education and skills training sector. The Investment Associate will be responsible for building a strong pipeline of innovative companies in the K-12 education and skill training sectors, managing a portfolio of existing companies, and handling relationships with investment and sector partners. The Investment Associate may also be involved in the fund operations and investor relations.  The candidate will have a good knowledge of K-12 education and skills training sector and also have demonstrated deep interest in investment, financial and portfolio management. An ideal candidate is passionately driven by early stage investing in social enterprises, or to create sustainable solutions that will impact children and youth at the bottom of the pyramid.   Roles and responsibilities:  The Investment Associate will work closely with the Lead Partner, Education to develop and manage a portfolio of innovative, scalable and sustainable social enterprises in the education and skill development sectors. The role also requires working on transactions for Menterra's incubation partner across the categories below. The role will include, but is not limited to:   Pipeline building :   Actively build pipeline of innovative social enterprises in the K-12 and skill training sectors  Build key strategic partnerships with organisations in the investment and education sectors to constantly build pipeline   Manage diligence process :  Conduct preliminary assessment and detailed due diligence (business, financial and legal) on companies that fit with Menterra's investment mandate   Conduct secondary research on market opportunity and study competitive landscape for prospective companies  Prepare financial models, exit strategies and provide detailed investment thesis to members of the Investment Committee   Term sheet negotiations and transaction structuring.  Portfolio management :   Actively manage a portfolio of 3-4 companies and oversee Menterra's entire portfolio of education and skill training companies  Add value to existing portfolio companies, including strategic advisory support on operations, introductions to mentors, investors, and potential partners, and actively partnering to help companies raise subsequent rounds of funding and/or position themselves for acquisition   Analyze trends across the education portfolio, present findings and make recommendations for support to portfolio companies   Other :  Collaborate with Investors Relations and Finance & Compliance team for managing the investment management operations, preparing investor reports and board presentations on periodic basis.  Support Menterra's other activities to build the social enterprise ecosystem in India  Required qualifications:   Bachelor's degree required   4+ years of work experience   At least 2 years of experience in education sector   Deep interest in early stage social investing  Preferred:   MBA or CA / CFA preferred   Exposure to education sector or work in education sector is a must.  Bachelors or masters with focus on education is an added advantage.   Data driven decision making mentality and sound business judgment   Previous work with social enterprise is desirable  Self-starter, capable of taking initiatives and making decisions in a collaborative manner   Demonstrated commitment to social impact   Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and manage workload at fast pace with strong attention to detail   Location: Chennai or Bangalore (India)   Compensation: 10 - 15 LPA  Reporting to: Lead Partner, Education and/or Managing Director
