Develops, advises upon the media strategy; coordinates and directly contributes to its implementation in order to raise awareness as well as profiling MSF as a leading medical humanitarian organization in India.   - Coordinates media relations within MSF India and for MSF in India, including the supervision of the Medical Press Officer and Press Officer vernacular   - Generates and facilitates media coverage for MSF India.  KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :  Strategic developments :  - Develops, advises upon and coordinates the implementation of MSF India media strategy in line with the 2015-2019 MSF India strategic plan.  - Develops annual plans for media activities including a budget and KPIs adjusting the targets according to the media panorama evolution in India.  - Ensures smooth and fruitful strategic collaboration and coordination with MSF India operational communications and Access Campaign including attending triangular communications meetings with the other entities.  - Integrates the media strategy with fundraising and recruitment needs linked to their specific objectives and advises both the departments on their activities linked to media.   - Supports or coordinates communications efforts during a crisis in India  - Represents MSF India during internal events as back-up for Head of Communications   Media support to public events/engagements :  - Plans and implements media work and outreach to raise visibility of campaigns and events, such as speaker series, film screenings, photo exhibition and other awareness raising initiatives including, but not limited to, ad buys and listing placements.   - Brief MSF India spokespersons on media and communications issues, including in emergencies, and acts as spokesperson, when requested.  - Develops a pool of Spokespersons for MSF in India in collaboration with the Medical Press Officer and the Event Officer.  Media engagement and Content creator :  - Serve as front-line media contact; respond to media-related inquiries and connects media with MSF staff who have direct knowledge and/or experience with the topic at hand in a timely and comprehensive manner.  - Be responsible for proactively pitching MSF issues and advocacy concerns to India-based media.  - Brief and debrief outgoing and returning field volunteers to prepare them for contact with the press and to stay abreast of MSF field activities (in collaboration with the Editor and members of media team)  - Advises on returned field staff members who can be leveraged for communications initiatives.  - Develops ideas, opportunities, and drafts feature articles, interviews, presentations, op-eds, and other communications pieces - some in conjunction and collaboration with the communications staff in India - to promote awareness of the field and advocacy work of MSF.  - Writes, and distributes press releases and other communications materials- some in collaboration with the medical press officer and other communications staff in India - to media representatives in India  - Organizes press conferences and facilitates press visits - in collaboration with advocacy and communications staff in India.  - Advises on editorial content for the E-newsletter and the MSF India website and other publications.  Analysis and monitoring :  - On a daily basis, ensures the monitoring of major India, South Asia and other international news media in order to stay abreast of global events directly relevant to MSF's work and to maintain knowledge of reporter and photographer beats and movements.   - According to agreed KPIs, provides monthly, quarterly and yearly analysis of number, nature and quality of media coverage in order to evaluate the impact and outreach of the media coverage and formulates strategic improvements.  Media Database and rapport building with Media :  - Ensures the mapping and updates of the media database.   - Develops and maintains contacts and relationships with domestic and foreign media representatives in India to create opportunities for keeping MSF in front of the public audience.  - Maintains up-to-date representation material for media contacts.  Coaching :  - Assists and trains MSF India spokespeople for media interactions or external representation.(This responsibility can be extended to spokespeople of operations in India and Access Campaign)  - Assists and trains Field Volunteers for media interactions.  Management and Coordination :   - Supervises, supports, evaluates and sets clear attainable objectives for the Medical Press Officer, Vernacular Press Officer and potential intern/volunteers.   - Establishes and maintains relationship with other Press officers, Media Relations Managers and Communication Advisors within the MSF movement.   Management and departmental administration :  - Attends regularly scheduled departmental meetings to share information, brainstorm solutions, and coordinate priorities.  - Participates in planning and implementation of MSF-India's communications strategies, policies and procedures.  - Carries out any duties that may reasonably be required by the Head of Communications in the light of the main purpose of the job.   - Supervise the Medical Press Officer and temporary media interns  Other Indicative Requirements :  Educational Qualifications & Functional / Technical Skills :  - Master in Journalism/Mass Communication or equivalent field from a reputed institute and/or a combination of relevant professional experiences in line with the responsibilities listed in this job description.  Relevant Experience (Type of experience and minimum number of years) :  - Minimum 5-6 years relevant work experience, preferably in press communication/campaigning in an iNGO or private sector setting.  Other requirements (Behavioural, Language, Certifications etc.) :   -
