Role

Mastercard Labs is dedicated to identifying and evolving breakthrough innovations in payments. The successful candidate will lead the Pune Research & Development team and will be charged with ensuring Mastercard continues to deliver technology and innovation excellence in new and emerging technology spaces.

As Head of R&D and Software Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in the leadership of the MasterCard Pune Labs, as well as leading the R&D team and charting the technology strategy for the group. Reporting to the Global Head of R&D Mastercard Labs, you will manage and grow a team of engineers focused on leveraging innovative technology to drive wide scale growth of payments and commerce technology in India.

- Design, build and launch robust, flexible, scalable solutions focused on driving wide scale growth of payments and commerce technology in India.

- Work with global head of R&D and senior management to define overall R&D technology strategy and execute against the strategy

- Define and own the Mastercard Pune Labs technology strategy, roadmap and priorities

- Provide day-to-day leadership of the technology team: hiring, setting and tracking objectives, obtaining resources, overseeing task completion; and reporting progress, accomplishments and challenges.

- Ensure Labs attains a reputation for technological and innovation excellence both internally in Mastercard and externally in the payments / financial services space

- Ensure Mastercard Pune Labs innovative product vision in this space is clearly articulated, understood and that technology solutions built deliver towards that vision

- Ensure strong and appropriate collaboration with all Mastercard R&D Labs and technology teams

- Facilitate the transition of qualifying initiatives from Labs into Mastercard commercialization teams / process

- Ensure all services can be readily published as APIs on the Mastercard Developers platform

- Keep up to date on technology trends and assess relevance in the payments space

- Be a champion for technological innovation inside Mastercard

All About You

- Expert software development skills

- Strong communication skills -- both verbal and written - with proven relationship, collaborative and organizational skills

- Extensive experience in building and leading successful agile technology teams

- Entrepreneurial, experience in a start-up and corporate environment

- Expert in Java and Spring (preferably Spring Boot, Spring Cloud)

- Expert knowledge of payment protocols

- Full stack experience.

- Broad knowledge of multiple databases (relational, no-SQL etc.) e.g. Postgres, Oracle, MySQL, Hadoop, Elastic

- Experience implementing APIs and SDKs

- Experience in building technology solutions for both developed and emerging markets
