Manager- Business Research (Consumer Products & Retail)

The role entails monitoring and predicting trends and key issues in the global Consumer Products sector and converting the knowledge into impactful research and analysis deliverables (thought leadership, market insights and account insights) that create potential business opportunities for the company. The individual will be required to support company's sector leadership and/or account teams on a pro-active basis and in response to specific requests. Other responsibilities include managing a team, overseeing project delivery including peer review and building relationships with key stakeholder groups.

Client responsibilities

1. Research and analysis:

a. Predictive analysis: Un-packs events into key drivers and causes to develop multiple hypotheses, investigates alternatives and recommend solutions. Draw together information from primary and secondary sources to prove or disprove hypotheses.

b. Leveraging relevant information sources: Use analytical tools and techniques, specifically those relevant to the domain community, and deftly uses them to address analytical issues. Demonstrate expertise in information sources relevant to the domain.

c. Linking company's service offerings: Understand and link solutions to current and expected trends and issues in the domain and the assigned accounts (if applicable), and thereby identify business opportunities for the firm.

d. Sharing best practices: Develop best practices around sector and account analysis, and share them with peers and colleagues

e. Elicitation: Collect and analyse information from internal and external subject matter experts through various techniques — face-to-face interviews, telephonic interviews, electronic surveys, etc.

2. Project management:

a. Planning and execution: Develops project plans and manages projects, including objectives, timelines, milestones, priorities, team member responsibilities and work products.

b. Monitoring: Monitors progress and regularly updates stakeholders on potential overruns and changes; re-negotiates timelines, scopes changes and budgets if necessary.

c. Collaborating: Develops project work products collaboratively with team members that focus on measurable business impact.

People responsibilities

1. People management:

a. Peer review: Review colleagues’ deliverables and advise on research, synthesis and key findings

b. Training: Participate in the training and development of colleagues to develop their understanding of the domain

2. Stakeholder management:

a. Global Company network: Build and maintain relationships largely through virtual interactions (using telephone, video conference, and other electronic communication tools) with global stakeholders and/or Company's India practioner(s) (including Partners, directors, and senior mangers).

b. Industry network: Maintain regular contact with subject matter specialists, both within and outside of the company.

c. Training platforms: Conduct presentations, training, and workshops on key business issues/developments at the sector and account levels

Requirements (including experience, skills and additional qualifications)

Technical skills requirements

- 7+ years in corporate environment

- Detailed knowledge and proven track record in the relevant domain (Consumer Products)

- Understanding of the domain at global level preferably will be a strong advantage

- Knowledge and experience within a professional services environment an advantage

- Masters degree or postgraduate qualification

Additional skills requirements

- Excellent spoken and written communication skills, as well as presentation skills

- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including financial analysis skills

- Good project and time management skills with the ability to complete multiple tasks and meet deadlines

- Expert in information sources relevant to the domain

- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office

- Passionate about research and analysis, and its practical application in the corporate environment

- Good executive presence and proven ability to build strong working relationships with senior global stakeholders of EY, using primarily virtual communication methods

- Excellent team player; comfortable working in a virtual environment; ability to peer review work and mentor colleagues

- Ability to work under pressure with limited supervision, and produce timely deliverables in a fast-paced environment

- Self-motivated, with strong work ethic and initiative; proactive in identifying issues and opportunities and delivering insightful solutions

- Holds high level of attention to detail

- May require occasional travel
