Finance Advisor

VSO – Tanzania has more than 50 years of operations delivering livelihoods projects supporting vulnerable people by promoting of small to medium business enterprises; supporting vocational training and skills development in local trades; and strengthening structures and networks of community-based organizations that are involved in economic development.

The VSO Secure Livelihoods program would like to recruit dynamic and qualified personnel with relevant experience in finance to fill vacancy position of volunteer finance adviser. The volunteer will work in a project named Increasing Market Access for Poor (IMA4P) in Kagera region, located at North Western part of Tanzania. The project aims to increase income security for the poor, in this case organic coffee smallholder producers through more equitable participation in value chains.

VSO Volunteer will work closely with the project team and the main goal of the role is to provide advice on financial planning and investment to farmers’ cooperatives and trading companies with main focus on maintaining a good balance of investment earnings, assets and an acceptable business risk level.

More specifically, the adviser will:

- Build the capacity of farmer cooperatives and trading companies’ management team on improved financial management systems.

- Support farmer cooperatives and trading companies to produce a viable business plan

- Build Institutional capacity of Village Cooperatives Banking (VICOBA) scheme within farmer groups’ level.

- Strengthen farmers’ network with the financing Institutions to access working capital.

Skills, qualifications and experience required

Essential

- A bachelor degree holder in Finance or related subject

- Experience in developing financial management systems

- Able to formulate and implementing financial regulations, policies and procedures.

- Good experience in establishing and supporting organization development

- Facilitation and training skills

Desirable

- Experience of working on similar projects in a developing country, particularly developing countries.

- Experience in working with poor communities, rural farmers in small and medium scale entrepreneurs

- Experience in banking or related services
