International Trade Consultant - WTO/FTA (4-12 yrs)

Currently working on a position of International Trade Consultant with a leading Indian Conglomorate.

Role: Consultant for WTO / FTA / International Trade related issues

Job Purpose:

- To make the division a single point knowledge repository on international trade (WTO/FTAs) and aim to make it a single point facilitator on these issues for senior management in the Group

- To independently initiate projects of high impact for the Group, relating to the impact of Globalization, Bilateral/Regional/Multilateral Trade Agreements, change in India’s Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), Export-Import Procedures, Incentive Structure and proactively give feedback to the businesses on policy changes with impact analysis

- Follow-up with the businesses to ensure that necessary representations on the above are made to protect and promote long term Group business interests and provide necessary inputs for the same

- Periodically interact with business Chambers, Government Ministries/Functionaries and Trade related Research Institutions and trade NGOs to be updated on the recent happenings in the International Trade arena and help Group Businesses take pro-active measures aimed at maximizing the gains from improved market access for export promotion and to meet the challenges arising out of freer import .

Job Context & Major Challenges:

- With the globalisation of trade and our Group’s growth across geographical borders, we need to continuously monitor and adapt to the changing business dynamics. It is therefore, critical that we scan international business environment and identify opportunities for export promotion and threats to Group business arising out of liberal imports envisaged under various bilateral and multilateral trade pacts.

- The challenge will be to continually provide Group businesses with up-to date analysis and strategic inputs on how these will affect their businesses and at the same time interact with businesses to take necessary actions including initiating making pro-active representations to safeguard long term interests.

- Interact and Network with relevant people at business Chambers, Industry Associations, Ministries, Consulting/Research firms and important trade related NGOs for keeping track of issues relating to International Trade, so as to provide timely inputs and recommend suitable action plans aimed at exploiting global trade opportunities (export promotion, diversification of export markets, sourcing of raw material & other important inputs)

- Be a key specialist Group resource on all Trade Policy issues including WTO/FTAs as an internal consultant.

- Provide specialist strategic inputs on issues of foreign trade policy and procedure to the Group’s businesses such that businesses are always updated on taking best decisions to maximize the gains from trade.
