Industrial Engineer - Apparel/textile/garments

Soft Good/Plush Industrial Engineer

Location: India

In this position, the individual will independently manage overall plush product development efforts ensuring quality, aesthetics, cost, safety and schedule adherence at all company's India based soft good manufacturers.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following: BF Tech. (Apparel Production) or B.Tech (Industrial & Production Engineering)

Required Experience:

- Minimum of 7 years working as an IE within soft good manufacturing industry.

- Technical and Management skills within soft good/apparel manufacturing industry.

- Floor Management, Work Force planning, Production Planning & Implementation experience.

- In depth Quality Control and Compliance experience within soft goods industry. Strong understanding of testing methods and results. Experience with toy safety standards a plus.

- In depth product development and production planning experience from sample development, approvals, material release, production start, finishing, packaging, warehousing to shipping.

- Labor cost estimation experience.

Position Responsibilities:

Partner and negotiate with company's vendors to:

- Meet product cost parameters by negotiating and recommending construction efficiencies between vendor and / or RI Engineering.

- Monitor product quality throughout production. Identify source of poor quality workmanship and arrange for training or corrective measures.

- Monitor process flow and control systems and provide innovative solutions to improve efficiencies.

- Manage and prioritize production demands.

- Meet development and production schedules. Communicate barriers to success.

- Develop Resource Requirement Plan (machines, equipment and workers).

- Train inspection staff in measuring methods and critical aesthetic areas.

- Implement incoming materials quality and quantity check procedure.

- Review and approve cutting plan/layouts to maximize usage.

- Monitor factories for QA compliance.

- Daily status communication with company's partners.

Specific Skills/Knowledge/Competencies required:

Product Management:

- Manage multiple projects and schedule demands over multiple locations in India.

- Problem solving in high stress situations. Identifying and removing barriers to production efficiency.

- Strong aesthetic and quality sense. Ability to evaluate and distinguish between low priority and critical aesthetic areas for development models vs. production quality.

- Superior organizational skills.

- Strong communication/computer skills, specifically in Outlook, Word and Excel.

Textile Identification and Evaluation:

- Identify and evaluate various types of textiles and trims, material qualities, printing/dyeing methods, surface coatings and embellishments.

- Knowledge of various surface decorations, such as embroidery, appliqu, location printing. Understanding of all types, uses and manufacturing methods.

Pattern Drafting/ Sewing & Construction:

- Demonstrate competent technical skills in soft toy/outfit pattern drafting and sewing construction methods.

- Identify and communicate problematic construction methods and suggest revisions to achieve desired aesthetic affects.

Manufacturing:

- Strong knowledge of industrial sewing machinery, soft good manufacturing, textile manufacturing, from raw fibers to finished goods.

- Manufacturing knowledge of simple plastic components and decoration methods.

- Perform time studies and determine time standards for cutting, sewing, finishing and packaging operations.

- Set production targets, organize floor and increase individual operations to fully meet maximum capacity.

- Evaluate workforce skills and physical limitations. Recommend/train necessary talent for critical construction points.

- Design incentive scheme surrounding performance of workers.

- Evaluate shop floor plans, workstations, production flow and capacities. Recommend re-engineering solutions to systems improving performance, efficiencies, increase capacities and flow.

- Evaluate production machinery for specific tasks and recommend attachments or machinery investments to gain greater efficiencies, improve productivity/quality and lower costs.

- Research new machinery and technology for potential implementation.

Digital Photography:

- Ability to take clear digital photographs of products, manipulate and add text to clarify communication of issues to company's partners.
