HP - Data Scientist - Big Data Analytics (4-10 yrs)

Responsibilities:

Part of the Big Data Analytics center of excellence at HP Analytics. Responsible for:

- Design, build and deploy data mining and data analysis solutions for large data sets on Big Data technologies

- Statistical model development, validation and implementation on diverse analytics application areas

- Ownership of solving business analytics questions across the spectrum of data acquisition (from either transactional EDW systems or from external sources or merged data sets), data preparation to developing, validating and deploying models;

- Work with a diverse technology and tool set for delivering business results through Big Data Analytics – HP Big Data technologies like Vertica, Autonomy as well as open sources technologies like R, Hadoop, NoSQL and scripting tools like Python, etc.

- Own the business analytics lifecycle – partner with business teams to understand business context, translate business question into analytics problem, solving, interpreting analytics solution in business terms, assessing whether business question is addressed

- Communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of people - simplifying analytics for business practitioners

Desired Skills and Experience:

Data Management:

- Familiarity in working with databases designed for high-performance computing (NoSQL, in-memory databases, columnar databases and Hadoop) having varying types of content (audio, video and text)

- Expert knowledge in one or more of these languages - R, SAS; 4+ years of work experience

- Programming with C/C++, Perl, Php, Python

- Working experience on relational databases and intermediate to advanced skills at SQL

- Experience in integrating, manipulating and analyzing complex, highly-dimensional data from varying sources

Analytics Modeling:

- Masters or Ph.D. in a relevant technical field, or 4+ years’ experience in a relevant role

- Analytics practitioner in any one of the areas of customer analytics, marketing analytics, web analytics, social media analytics with at least 4+ years of relevant experience

- Ability to recognize the appropriate analytics technique to use for the data and business problem - be it descriptive, diagnostic, predictive or prescriptive analysis

- Experience in solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches

- Experience with one or more Visualization tools and technologies - Qlikview/ Spotfire / Tableaux

- Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Business acumen:

- Ability to pick the right analytical problem - the choice of the right problem being determined by its alignment with key business imperatives and the business impact it’s expected to deliver

- Thorough understanding of the business context for the problem on-hand
