Position Summary :

- Our MNC Client is seeking to recruit a Head of Engineering and Operations for our India technology team in Ahmedabad who will report directly to the Director of Engineering in Canada.

- They have experienced explosive growth since its inception but in many ways it is just scratching the surface of its future promise.

- To realize its full potential, they need an exceptionally strong technology leader to fill the lead role in Ahmedabad.

- This Head of Engineering will lead development and testing teams in India.

- This is a key role for us as we continue to strive to improve our software engineering and delivery practices in order to keep pace with our global business growth.

- Based in offshore office in Ahmedabad, the Head of Engineering will be charged with continuing the transformation of the engineering team to an agile, high quality software engineering team. To do this, the Head of Engineering must create effective working relationships across the technology organization in both Development, Product, and DevOps.

- The Head of Engineering must also work directly with key stakeholders across Call Centre Operations and Marketing both to validate feature development and to provide day to day operational support. In short, the Head of Engineering must create a confidence for all stakeholders that the engineering teams can deliver the right solutions, on time and with quality.

Major Responsibilities :

Head of Engineering, India will be expected to :

- Partner with the Director, Development to deliver on our product road-map

- Be the technical owner for a set of products that includes a proprietary monolithic Perl booking engine, micro-services written in Java and Perl, various automated reporting facilities and several large eCommerce web properties

- Staffing, scheduling and performance management of all development and QA resources

- Continue to develop and improve delivery processes

- Commit to fostering a quality-focused development culture

- Lead the talent management effort for India Technology, including hiring, developing and retaining a best in class team

- Lead the training efforts for the India team - ensure that developers have regular performance management, development plans

- Create, implement and manage processes and ensure best practices for software development, version control, unit testing etc. as well as build, test and release mechanisms

- Continuously seek to improve product and service quality

Technical Capabilities :

- Sound knowledge and experience working in a variety of agile frameworks and project tools (e.g. Atlassian)

- Expert knowledge of Java, scripting languages (e.g. Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.) web technologies (e.g. Javascript, CSS, HTML)

- Proven experience in architecture, design and delivery of data intensive applications

- Experience with modern web UI frameworks (e.g. React, Angular)

- Experience leading a QA / testing function and developing automation techniques to improve ongoing quality of delivery

- Experience with JVM languages such as Scala or Groovy

- Familiarity with scraping techniques and mechanisms

- Expertise in Linux

- Experience with architecting systems for AWS is a plus

Ideal Experience :

- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in technology-related (engineering, development and testing) positions including at least five years in a senior technology role in an online business environment, prior experience in the flight, hotels and/or vacation travel industry would be ideal.

- Bachelor degree in computer software engineering or STEM field is required.

- Experience in reporting to a North American head-office in a highly matrixed environment

- Experience in leading agile development teams

- Proven track record in driving throughput and quality improvements in technology

- Experience building culture with high levels of performance, engagement, and accountability

- Demonstrated delivery of a portfolio of multiple concurrent projects across different technology platforms and programming languages

- Strong knowledge of eCommerce, CRM and contact centre operations and related technologies would be ideal

- Experience in a senior IT role in a business environment that includes mobile application and solutions development
