Head of Engineering

Description of Work :

This position directs all aspects of design and construction of major facilities, upgrades to facilities including remodeling of office space, identification of mechanical and electrical problems, transit improvement upgrades, design elements and the formulation of recommendations for the solution of those identified problems. Develops and administers the budget for facilities engineering.

Duties & Responsibilities :

Required :

- Participates equitably in the development and implementation of the department goals and objectives.

- Manages and supervises the facilities engineering operations and staff. Oversees all in-house designs and estimates for facility remodeling and transit improvement projects.

- Identifies and reviews facility needs for improvements and upgrades, including estimating for complete project budgets for plant/ facilities maintenance, transportation and administrative staff.

- Writes scope of work. Evaluates proposals and participates in final selection.

- Manages design, construction and takeover of new facilities with appropriate snag lists

- Communicates with all divisions and departments in providing information regarding all facility requirements on maintenance part.

- Developing procedures for preventive maintenance program for all facility projects that are completed and accepted.

- Prepares and tracks budget reports and schedules for all facility projects/ operations.

- Provides input into the Transit Development Plan for capital projects.

- Supports staff and promotes division and departmental communication.

- Ensures compliance with internal and external authorities, EHS programs.

- Collaborates with EHS for certification program.

- Provides technical expertise to contractors, consultants, property owners, utility companies, and all local agencies having jurisdiction with facilities.

- Provides interior design services, specifying and coordinating all finishes of a facility including furniture.

- Should have significant experience/knowledge in functioning of HVAC/Power Generators/EME equipment's.

- Significant project management experience in both design and construction.

- Knowledge of facilities engineering technology and construction terminology.

- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical concepts.

- Working knowledge of construction procurement policies and procedures.

- Demonstrated ability to manage and evaluate work carried out by staff and consultants.

- Skilled on conceptualizing complex problems and developing appropriate problem solving techniques.

- Demonstrated ability to manage cost control and project scheduling for capital construction projects, including ability to track progress of construction activities.

- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, at all organizational levels including external agencies.

- Ability to make logical decisions using sound judgment.

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in and manage a diverse workforce.
