Position : General Manager - Category Development  Company : GSK Consumer India  Key responsibilities :  - The role is responsible for ensuring that we strengthen our brands and deliver innovations that accelerate our business growth.  - This acceleration is in the context of a dynamic economic environment, where domestic consumption is rising and there is heavy competition in the industry. It is to be achieved by delivering relevant science and tastes to consumers & customers who are spread across multiple countries, come from varied socio-economic backgrounds and have unique cultural and language identities.  - The role will manage small & medium sized projects for the three year innovation pipeline. These projects will be a mix of renovation, restage, and blue sky innovation.  - Leverage relevant category growth drivers and develop 5 year innovation vision board to drive plan growth on the portfolio  - Develop compelling consumer insights and apply them to develop/guide differentiated concepts, science based claims, product consumption experience and packaging  - Drive delivery of in market launches by working seamlessly across boundaries, functions, matrix structures, based in different geographies  - Contribute to global brand identity, brand heart and visual brand language of the brand  - Drive a clear vision and principles for shoppers and experts  - Give direction to accelerate the digital presence of the portfolio  - The role is expected to operate at a highly strategic level, designing the principles and strategy for innovation in the brands, and then working with the Marketing & Sales teams to execute the same.  - Develop understanding and empathy of the consumer and customer requirements (consumer tonality, business conduct, trade complexities etc.)  - Support the development of the platform innovation strategy  - Set compelling brand strategy.  - Create high level channel and retail vision, key shopper insights and strategies and category selling story.  - Set clear operating guidance for how we win in market, including geographic priorities  - Set regional guidance for P&L  - Drive action plans to achieve successful global Innovation launches and global profit and loss targets.  The role is expected to deliver to solve some complex issues and achieve a host of outcomes that have multiple measures :  - Brand Equity Index  - Net Sales, Market Share  - On time, on quality deliverables, as set out during the annual planning cycle.  - Innovation Sales, Growth from Innovation, Time to Market  - Supply Chain & Cost Control, % reduction in COG's sold  - Each of these outcomes requires a combination of activities to come together and the identification of solutions that are not necessarily pre-defined.  - The role is expected to work in a highly diverse cultural environment, both at a regional and global level. Situated in India, the role is expected to develop a deep understanding of consumer and customer requirements across 5 countries (India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Myanmar), with India itself having 29 states, each with a unique cultural identity and spread across the economic strata. Subsequently, all strategy and communication needs to cater to this complexity.   - In addition, the role is expected to work across ISC and global teams within GSK to build and deploy strategies. These teams are spread across the world.  Team size : two direct reports  Other job related skills :  - Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects with successful outcomes.  Ability to lead within a matrix organization, integrating complex multifunctional efforts crossing multiple business areas  - Experience of leading successful innovation launches in market  - Couple of years of sales experience along with the above will be ideal (not necessary)  - Competence/expertise in formulating category/brand strategy, brand plans, execution plans  - Competence/expertise in brand architecture, setting brand/variant roles & priorities and building portfolio  - Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to articulate complex thinking in a simple way  - Ability to lead and inspire
