Executive Director - International Development Organisation - NGO (15-25 yrs)

We need an Executive Director to lead Organisation's India Trust as part of the global Organisation family, implementing and maximising the impact of Organisation's contribution to overcoming poverty and disadvantage. This will involve not only developing new relationships with strategic partners to shape Organisations goals in country, but also managing our people and volunteers and being accountable for financial and legal compliances. Importantly, you will be securing resources, raising the profile of Organisation and volunteering within India and representing Organisation to government and international agencies, donors and the corporate sector - championing our values and vision at all times.

Title: Executive Director - India

Desired Skills and Experience:

- As an experienced leader you will have led programmes in challenging and changing environments and be able to use your excellent leadership, negotiation and relationship-building skills to create and implement Organisation's strategy in India and work with the local board of trustees.

- You will have proven leadership and management skills, including people management skills, strong financial management experience, including budgeting and financial governance.

- Experience securing significant funding is essential alongside the knowledge of how volunteering contributes to development. There will be substantial travel within the country and occasional travel within Asia and the UK. As well as a competitive salary, the package includes comprehensive health and service benefits.

Responsibilities:

- Act as a head of Organisation's India Trust and, up until such a time that the transition is complete, as head of Organisation India's set up; service a board of trustees of the Organisation's India Trust and, until further notice, an advisory committee on behalf of Organisation International Board, ensuring that both have access to the appropriate information and stimulus to effectively discharge their responsibility for the strategic and operational direction of Organisation in India. Ensure full legal and reporting compliance of Organisation India Trust and Organisation India to Indian and UK law.

- Strategic Leadership Lead the implementation of the Organisation India’s strategic and operational plans, including raising the profile of volunteering in development at national level, engaging all stakeholders as laid out in the business plan/Organisation India Strategy, responding where appropriate to changing internal and external environment, and maximizing all available opportunities (national, regional and global) to strengthen the programme.

- Relationship Management, Profile Raising and fundraising Representing both entities, raise the profile of Organisation, volunteerism and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in India, developing and maintaining relations with key people/bodies including development sectors, high profile corporates and key government departments.

- Develop and manage key strategic partnerships with Indian NGOs to maximise the impact of Organisation's work. Promote Organisation through media and publicity activities.

- People Management: Create a high-performing, positive, creative environment for staff and volunteers with an appropriate staffing structure and clear accountabilities. Manage staff and volunteers effectively by creating a shared vision for Organisation India, professional development and performance management. Cultivate an environment in which opportunities to develop the competencies required at Organisation are identified and acted on in line with the Global learning and development framework. Be accountable for recruiting volunteers to meet Organisation’s International programme requirements around the world.

- Financial Stewardship: Lead in the development of realistic annual budget and recommend yearly budget for approval. Negotiate annual bid with Organisation International. Ensure that systems are in place to monitor the appropriate use of resources, including sound financial internal controls, implementing changes recommended by internal and/or external auditors, and putting in place appropriate risk management policies.

- Income generation and management Develop, manage and meet 5 year income generation projection for Organisation India. Contribute to global income targets by leading on identifying funding opportunities for Organisation India and Organisation International. Ensure effective relationship and account management of key donors, including corporate. Be accountable for budget, resources and assets, on-time quality reporting, ensuring financial controls and cost effectiveness.

- Security and Risk Management: Be fully accountable at country level for emergency and risk management, developing a plan and ensuring staff and volunteer awareness and compliance

Key Performance Indicators:

- Ensure a robust and well-informed governance structure. Decision-making is effective and timely, and based on high quality information.

- Ensure smooth transition from Organisation India to Organisation India Trust

- Organisation India's set up is fully compliant with laws applying to Organisation’s operations and to key Organisation's policies / reporting requirements.

- Relevant and ambitious strategic plan, shared and understood internally and externally.

- Positive engagement and discussion with key stakeholders results in joint working on shared initiatives.

- High brand awareness of Organisation

- Clear and transparent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with small number of strategic partners

- Individuals understand their contribution to Organisation’s overall vision.

- Programme and Team annual objectives are met.

- Individuals understand their contribution to Organisation’s overall vision.

- Working Quality, cost effective resourcing solutions in place ensuring recruitment of the right people in the right roles.

- International volunteer targets are met and returned volunteers survey as highly engaged

- Financial targets are met and reliance on Organisation's core funding is reduced to a minimum, in line with Organisation’s financial forecast.

- The organization remains financially viable.

- Ensure that programmme team is linked to regional and global fundraising teams; in pipeline development, account management and proposal writing.

- Appropriate plans for risk and security management are in place, which identify and will manage relevant risks.

- Thinking Strategically - Drives forward Organisation’s strategy; helps to set the future direction in response to anticipated changes in the external environment.

- Delivering Results - Effectively leads large teams or complex projects, generating a goal-oriented, problem-solving team mentality and ensuring timely, high quality results

Skills and Knowledge Required:

Essential:

- Substantial management experience at a senior level, preferably in a similar or other not-for-profit Organization.

- Ability to build and maintain a strong and effective relationship with the Chair and Board

- Excellent communication and representational skills, with substantial experience of networking with a diverse range of stakeholders including developing contacts/ representation at highest levels.

- Proven business development skills that have resulted in major income streams with excellent strategic thinking skills as well as practical experience of having designed organisational strategy and developed new products.

- Experience of developing Corporate Social Responsibility strategies / social enterprise

- Proven leadership and management skills, including people management skills Strong financial management experience, including budgeting and charitable financial governance

IT literate (Microsoft and finance packages)

- Experience in security and reputational risk management, and a highly developed political awareness

Desirable:

- Experience of working with Trustees/volunteers

- A track record of innovation in business development and operational delivery

- An understanding of the role of research and development within the not-for profit sector
