Job Title : Bodhi School Principal

Organization : Bodhi Education Society (BES)

Reports To : Bodhi Education Society Board

Location : Narayankhed, Telangana State, India

Position Overview :

Bodhi Education Society requires a School Principal/Correspondent to run the operations of Bodhi School. The Principal will be responsible for management of school affairs with the support of an experienced local school team. The incumbent is expected to live in the school campus in Narayankhed. The Principal will report to the BES Board in a periodic manner for guidance and directions.

Organization Overview :

Bodhi School is run by Bodhi Education Society (BES). Bodhi Education Society is a not-for-profit organization. Bodhi is a grant funded rural school located in Narayankhed town, 136 km from Hyderabad city, India. The school is operational since 2008 and has 369 students. School is affiliated to the local state board and currently runs class's upto grade 7.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions) :

- School Operations : Manage the daily operations of the school and all allied functions/ tasks. Plan the annual operational calendar and implement the activities as per plan.

- Growth in School Enrollment : Achieve the enrollment goals set for the year by the supervising authority. Ensure that the enrollment goals set are also in line with the expenditure and fund requirements for the year. Plan and execute strategies that project the school as as the desired destination for best academic standards.

- Academic Quality : Achieve the required academic standards as envisioned by the Board. Plan and implement strategies and benchmarks required to validate the quality level vis-- -vis the best in the industry at an international level.

- Teacher Training : Create quality teacher training programs for the school team for regular training and skill enhancement. The plan should include understanding of teaching methodologies, tracking academic progress in children, helping children of varying learning ability and speed.

- Parent Engagement & Management : Parent engagement, awareness and education strategies to be implemented from time to time to match parental expectation and delivery at school. Given that the parents in the local area are educationally handicapped themselves, the school will be required to conduct parent education workshops and create confidence in them about the academic quality.

- Additionally, manage and address the concerns and grievances of parents as and when required. The school will be required to be sensitive and compassionate to some parents who have financial challenges in arranging the school fees in a timely manner.

- Staff Recruitment & Performance Management : Hire new staff as required and create a development plan for the staff. Create performance planning paths for the existing staff to improve their knowledge and skills levels. Create induction plan for the new staff to ensure adherence to existing values of the schools and attitude towards low-income communities served by the school.

- Curriculum & Content Delivery : Create or put together the best in class curriculum across pre-primary, primary and high school. The curriculum can be an assembly of best practices from different approaches, but should build upon the skills and objectives learned in previous grades to reach academic goals and should also achieve academic results comparable at the local level. Hire and train the teaching staff for the content delivery in class.

- Student Assessment : Have a planned student assessment plan for assessing the learning achievements and gaps among students. This can be both internal and validated by tests of external stakeholders. Performance improvement plans for students should be planned to address the leaning challenges brought forth by the assessments.

- Process Management : Create standardized processes for the functioning of the school. Create a buy-in for the processes from the local team and henceforth ensure implementation.

- Financial Management & Efficiency : School operations should be run with financial prudence and in guidance with the supervisory authority. Maintain high level of financial integrity for all members of school. Annual budgets need to be prepared and sent for review and approval to the Board.

- Liasoning with the Government : The Principal will be required to interact with the local/state government officials from time to time to ensure that the government requirements are being met. Local school team will be of support in this task.

- Compliance & Legal Matters : All legal compliances and reporting to be tracked and completed within the stipulated time.

- Accounting & Audit : Handle the quarterly accounting and annual accounts/operations audit for the school.

- Reporting : Regular updates and reports need to be shared with the supervising authority or any other agencies like the donors as per need and requests.

- Grants & Fund Raising : If the BES Board needs to raise grants, prepare the required documents and reports.

- Maintaining Safety & Security of Children : Maintaining safety of children as long as they are in the school premises is critical. This may require maintaining the grounds in a regular manner to ensure safety. All children should be supervised at all times. Maintaining safety of children when they use the school transport to be ensured.

- Transport Management : Ensure that the transport system runs smoothly and safely. Hire or change the systems as per need and requirements of the school system and government compliances.

- Perform any other duties as assigned

Supervision Received :

The person reports to the Bodhi Board on a periodic basis. The person will get monthly/quarterly supervision and guidance from the Board based on the requests and progress reports.

Supervision Exercised :

The person will supervise the local teaching and non-teaching staff of the school. The Principal will be responsible for hiring new staff as per need, develop the staff to achieve the academic standards and conduct periodic performance reviews.

Qualification & Skills:

Required :

- Masters Degree in any subject.

- Degree in Education - M.Ed/B.Ed or equivalent.

- Additional education related qualification will be considered - like degree in education methodology and pedagogy, etc.

- Experience of running a middle or high school for 8 -10 years atleast across any Board.

- Experience of working in a growth school preferred.

- 10 - 15 years of teaching experience in middle/high school preferred.

- Knowledge of latest teaching practices.

- Understanding of budgets and financials.

- Understanding of routine accounting and audit.

- Understanding of data and data analysis.

- Adept at basic computer skills - Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

- Report writing and research skills required to maintain periodic reports and creating training modules.

- Open to travel as per need.

- Work on weekends (Sunday) if required. All Saturdays are working days.

- Deals with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgment.

Duration of Assignment :

The assignment if for a period of at least 2 years and can be extended to 3 years based on performance review. The person will be required to sign an agreement to this effect. The agreement can be terminated by the BES Board due to performance issues or if the terms of contract are not met.

Compensation :

- The compensation will be at par with the best in industry.

- There will be an additional bonus component. The person will become eligible for this after completing the agreed tenure and delivery of terms of contract.

- In case the terms of contract or the tenure is not fulfilled, the person loses the right to bonus or additional compensation. The matter will be decided at the discretion of the BES Board.

- If the person is unable to fulfill the terms of contract due to exceptional circumstances, the matter will be addressed at the discretion of the Board.
