The organisation is a recently established Section 25 nonprofit which has the goal of improving sanitation & hygiene in India through innovative programs that address important bottlenecks within sanitation.   The founder of the organisation is an IIT & IIM graduate who in earlier avatars was a management consultant and an online entrepreneur before beginning to focus on high-impact innovation for sanitation and hygiene over the last four years.  The organisation is launching a mega-program focused on improving sanitation in Indian schools in partnership with a very large corporate organization in India. This School Sanitation Program will be the flagship program in the near future.   The program will seek to bring improved sanitation, and hygiene to over 20 million children across 200,000+ schools by ensuring that a functional toilet exists in the school, that it is maintained well, and that children are regularly taught the importance of hygiene and appropriate sanitation and hygiene habits are inculcated.   Job Purpose: Director Operations   Success in the School Sanitation Program will require the ability to effectively setup & manage complex, large scale workflows that cut across internal & external teams that are geographically spread. This will require designing and implementing appropriate project management processes and mechanisms to manage project outcomes effectively.   It will require managing a multidisciplinary team of people that will look after different functions within the School Sanitation Program: volunteer management, NGO partner management, government liaison, HR, & organizational finance. It is expected that the size of the program team size at scale will be 100+ people. Success will also require constant collaboration and liaising with diverse groups across India and abroad that will range from academics, corporate senior management, government, NGO staff, process excellence teams.   We are looking to hire an exceptional Director Operations for the School Sanitation Program who will take overall responsibility for this program through its setup, rollout, & scaleup phases.   - The Director Operations will work closely with the CEO & Director Technology and will take the lead in hiring and managing a vibrant & capable operations team.   Responsibilities & Outcomes :   - As Director Operations, you will have overall ownership & responsibility for the success of the School Sanitation program and ensuring that it scales up to 200,000 schools and reaches out to 20 million children in India.  - This will require extremely high quality program management, operations, team building, & ultimately making the organisation a well oiled machine for delivering high quality projects for improved sanitation in India.   Qualifications:   - You'll need to be an exceptional individual with demonstrated leadership experience managing large processes through teams of 50+ people with high levels of quality control.   - You'll be a self starter skilled at bringing structure out of ambiguity, analytical problem solving, working collaboratively with people from diverse disciplines, & setting up robust scalable processes that lead to high quality outcomes.   - You would be the kind of person who is looking for more meaningful work than is normally found in corporate environments and who would thrive in a startup environment that begins in ambiguity but gradually builds certainty.   - You would have worked in cross-cultural settings and would be equally at ease talking to people in an Indian slum and to a technologist discussing mobile software.   - You would love getting your hands dirty and would love the opportunity to travel to villages, slums, and engage in developmental work.   Specific qualifications you would have are:   - A deep interest in social impact with an intent to work in this space for at least 3-4 years if not more.   - A desire to work in a startup setting rather than at a very large organization  - Between 11-14 years of experience out of which at least 5 years should be in an Operational Excellence or Delivery roles with a leading Program Management Firm, Consulting Firm, IT / ITES Firm.   - Experience managing a team of between 5-7 Managers or Black Belts (directly) and at least 40-50 Team Members (indirectly)   - Deep experience in business analysis, process definition, and setting up processes from scratch  - Deep experience in data driven problem solving through root cause analysis, hypothesis creation & testing  - Deep experience in process improvement methods such as Lean & Six Sigma. A Black Belt certification would be ideal.   - A sincere bias towards action and the desire to constantly improve productivity  - Experience with the end-to-end human resources cycle from interviews, hiring, performance management, promotions, & letting go.  - Ability to think on your feet, recalibrate plans to handle changing priorities and using good judgment in stressful situations  - A roll-up-your-sleeves attitude towards your work and the ability to work through the macro-picture as well as the nitty gritty. You shouldn't shy away from doing the micro, grunt work when needed. And it will most definitely be needed in the early days of the program.   - Very broad interests and high levels of curiosity. Some evidence of independent creative work - such as creating your own documentary, entrepreneurial venture etc - would be viewed very positively  - Flexibility in managing an intense work schedule. We expect that in the first year of the program, there would be a need to put in 55 hour workweeks regularly.  - Exceptional verbal & written communication skills  - Graduate & undergrad degrees from leading colleges in India and abroad. An MBA from premier institutions such as the IIMs will be highly preferred.  Compensation:  - The organisation wants to create a high performance culture and want to make it possible for high-performing individuals from a for-profit background to join without having to make extraordinary financial (and often unsustainable) sacrifices.   - A compensation package commensurate with your skills & experience will be designed for you but, as a rule of thumb, it will be roughly between 70-75% of the equivalent for-profit sector pay for a similar role
