Designation: Director Legal

Job Description:

- In depth knowledge of Corporate Laws, Contracting, Employment Law, Litigation, Corporate Governance, Taxation, Foreign Exchange & Entity Matters

- End to End Statutory / Regulatory Compliance, across Multiple Jurisdictions

- Ability to forge a consensus amongst conflicting business / stakeholder interests, both within the organisation & externally, close a deal, expand relationships

- Skilled in advising Board / Management on structuring complex transactions

- Experience in Mergers & Acquisitions & Integration of the Target, Due Diligence, Risk Mitigation Strategies, Six Sigma Green Belt Certified, with an ability to manage scale, globally, working with ambiguity, see the big picture, etc.

- Conceptualized & Set up teams to centrally manage statutory & regulatory compliance, an electronic repository for contracts, back office operations, etc.

- Implementation Lead for various complex & very large scale global initiatives

- Consistently exceeded internal targets, across multiple parameters

- Recipient of numerous awards recognizing performance, initiative, team work

- Manage all aspects of the legal docket; oversee cooperating attorneys as they engage in complex litigation in Federal and State court in civil rights and constitutional cases, including overseeing all aspects of discovery, motion practice, briefs, trials, appellate work, and amicus briefing;

- Maintain his or her own caseload of cutting edge civil liberties/civil rights litigation

- Recruit and collaborate with volunteer attorneys to build the COMPANY's docket by engaging them in COMPANY sponsored litigation, including research, brief writing, depositions, and trial work. Ensure that volunteer attorneys and legal interns are well trained in substantive areas of the law, sound legal practice, and organizational operations;

- Supervise the paralegal and potentially additional legal staff budget-permitting;

- Research civil liberties issues and draft legal memorandum, and demand letters;

- Ensure that legal program adheres to highest standards of legal and professional ethics;

- Collaborate internally with the Communications, Public Policy, and Development departments to advance the COMPANY's priority campaigns ensuring maximum media exposure, coordinating policy and legal advocacy tactics, and developing financial resources to grow.

- Develop and maintain relationships with our partners including the legal staff at the National COMPANY, other affiliates, legal services agencies, and law firms;

- Keep the Executive Director informed of significant legal developments; consult with the Executive Director on priority and complex issues and resource requirements;

- Engage in public speaking, articulating the COMPANY's views to the public on a broad range of issues;

- Monitor annual litigation budget and expenses throughout the year, seeking adjustments as needed, ensuring bottom-line budget- to-actual performance;
