Development Manager

This position is responsible for overseeing the entire software development life-cycle across multiple projects and teams. This position works hands-on with the development teams to ensure the technical success of key software projects and products. As well, the Development Manager works closely with all departments including Product Management, IT Operations, Sales and Marketing to plan and prepare for new projects that are coming down the pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide technical leadership and mentoring within the development group. Motivate and manage team productivity. Guide team members to ensure they understand their deliverables.

- Create technical work breakdown structures and task dependencies.

- Guide the technical activities of the team to ensure that deadlines are met and the product roadmap is adhered to.

- Act as the technical liaison for product development activities.

- Conduct performance reviews for all members of the development team

- Create and enforce development processes and standards that enhance the team's efficiency and the quality of the software deliverables

Skills and Experience:

- A proven track record with a minimum of 5 years of progressive management experience in a fast-paced managed services environment.

- Minimum of 3 years working in a hands-on management role, leading a team. Management skills include: strategic planning, coaching and mentoring.

- A record of demonstrating strong leadership abilities by developing a vision and delivering desired results.

- Full life cycle development experience; planning, engineering, project management, business development and project development skills, combined with excellent presentation, interpersonal and communications skills.

- Familiarity with the Agile development process and Agile project management tools like Scrumworks, Rally, VersionOne

- Excellent understanding of key architecture considerations/issues associated with mobile applications and a distributed multi-tier infrastructure

- Extensive experience using C++, Java, J2EE (JMS, JSP, JSF, EJBs, JDBC, JAX, AJAX) Hibernate, Oracle, XML, Struts, Tag Libraries, MVC, Weblogic and WebServices

- Knowledge of mobile device platforms and technologies (iOS, Android, HLS, BlackBerry OS, HTML5)

- Experience identifying and utilizing design patterns (singleton, abstract factory, strategy, observable). Knowledge and experience with modern web UI technologies

- Proven experience in wireless communications coupled with launching software-based solutions based off a core platform.
