Chief Architect - LTE Wireless Domain - Embedded Technologies (15-20 yrs)

Chief Architect is appointed by the Engineering VP and Engineering Director to lead the architecture & technology choices

Designation: Chief Architect

Role:

- Responsible for the software architecture, design and leading the development team for projects.

- Develop a good understanding of business need, participate in pre-sales, discuss end customer requirements, requirements development, ensuring product quality as per internal and customer's quality requirements.

Responsibilities and Key Result Areas:

An architect is primarily responsible for the following:

- Responsible for defining, designing, and implementing software for embedded networking applications, based upon open ATCA platforms, Rack mount servers, and other hardware platforms.

- Responsible for software roadmap evolution, identification of new features and functions specifically relating to network data-plane and control plane.

- Expected to create innovative solutions in conjunction with CTO and system architects.

- Key technology themes include switching, routing, open/software defined networking, and virtualization.

- Responsible for partitioning and design of high performance networking application software, including management and control plane components and interfaces, data-plane execution in general multicore and/or special purpose networking processors, and fit into an overall system architecture.

- Will interface directly with customers to understand requirements, discuss new project opportunities, and assess and scope projects.

- Experienced all phases of product life cycle including requirements, design, coding, and

- Experience in making proposals to clients/customers

- Experience in developing detailed product requirements based on customer and PLM inputs

- Assisting in global design by brainstorming and considering multiple design options during design with global development team in China, India, and the US

- Reviewing detailed design and validation plan, assisting in identifying testing strategies and test plan development

- Oversight on key quality practices in the project like code reviews, static and dynamic analysis, defect removal

- Is responsible for key technical decisions in the project including change management and will be responsible for leading the project change control board (CCB) for any new requirements or enhancements (can be part of decision making)

- Ensuring customer facing product documentation content and quality meeting the product delivery requirements

1.7 Experience

- Total 15-22 years of experience with at least 10 years of experience in embedded system & interface protocol software development.

- At least 10 years of experience in telecom network equipment development with knowledge of 3G and LTE domains.

- Able to work with little direction and be able to multi-task, handle changing priorities, and meet aggressive customer schedules and requirements.

- Able to make good decisions and execute even when faced with ambiguous or missing requirements.

- Good intuitive understanding of software, hardware, and systems.

- Development experience in embedded systems, Linux, and real-time OS environments.

- Excellent planning, organizational, and communication skills

- Competency in programming with C, C++, and Assembly/micro-code, with background in other languages also desirable.

- Hands on experience dealing with various PowerPC/PowerQUIC/ARM/X86 processors and packet processing processors like Cavium OCTEON, Broadcom XLR/XLP, EZChip, and associated UBoot/Boot loader/Firmware, Linux BSP and SDK

- Knowledge of ATCA, IPMI highly desirable.

- Knowledge and working experience of 2-3 years on EZ chip Network processor [NP2, NP3, NP4, NP5 etc.,].

- Micro-coding experience on NPUs like Tilera, Marvel is a plus

- Solid knowledge of:

- Wireless networking architecture and protocols

- Working experience on L2, L3 protocols on datapath [especially data forwarding] including concepts like VLAN, L2F, Ethernet, VPN, RSTP, MSTP, IGMP, IPv4/v6, ICMP, OSPF, MPLS etc., and OpenFlow/SDN.

- Fundamentals of routing concepts and interfaces, including OpenFlow and Open Networking

- Fundamentals of traffic management and load balancing concepts

- System management (SNMP, Netconf, DMTF, UML/Object models, CLI/GUIs, etc.)

- Software configuration management tools

- Switching & packet processing silicon and programming models

- ATCA system architecture, especially platform management

- Linux programming, device drivers, APIs and boot-loaders (BIOS/UBoot)

- CPU/NPU architectures (IA, PPC, MIPS, EZChip)

- Experience in dealing with Broadcom Ethernet switches and associated management software (e.g. Level 7 FASTPATH software) would be an advantage

- Has worked on various languages (C, C++) and platforms (Linux, ARM), RTOS

- Has good understanding of the complex data structures and operating system concepts and experience at the kernel level changes.

- Abstraction and analytical skills, Capable of decomposing complex problems

- Good understanding of SW processes. Familiarity with Agile, ISO and SEI methods is a plus.
