Job position: Buyer

Job responsibilities:

1. To work with the Merchandiser

a) in the development of the departmental financial plans and to develop contingency plans that will ensure that the net margin plan can be achieved

b) and Marketing and Design to develop Visual Merchandising promotions in line with theme and product launches

2. Vendor

a) Vendor identification and development

b) Monitor on an ongoing basis delivery prices and quality by the vendor.

c) Conduct the annual review of supplier performance

3. Budgets and margin

a) Ensure that margin on sale plan is achieved within the agreed price strategy.

b) Obtaining Range merchandise after effective negotiation

c) Manage budgeted department expenditure within agreed levels

4. Product

a) Through a detailed and informed awareness of market, competition, consumer and product trends work with the design team to develop commercial looks and themes appropriate to the department.

b) Product presentation and packaging & Product development along with Merchandiser/ QA and display norms along with store planning.

c) Regularly update the front-end on key product benefits

5. Consumer

a) Create structured ranges for each grade and type of stores that will give the best possible choice to the consumer while delivering the required returns per square foot.

6. Development of subordinate

a) Ensure that the skills of all direct reports are fully developed through a balance of training and coaching, and to manage individual performance so that full potential can be realised.

7. General

a) Integration with internal customers (Retail, Store planning, Visual Merchandisers and Merchandisers) and external customers (consumer).

b) Initiate and develop improvements in buying processes and best practices.

c) Conduct regular training programmes and provide updated product information packs for front-end.

Job specifications:

Education: NIFT (GMT/FD/Textile D&D), Pearl academy (IFTP)

Experience: 5-7 years

Age: 27-32 years

Industry preference: Textile/ Garment/ Retail / Export House (Merchandisers)

Reporting relationships: reports to the Category Manager of respective department, the assistant and deputy buyer of the department reports in to this position.

Technical skills: Product knowledge, Effective presentation skills, Effective negotiation skills, sound understanding of costings.
