Roles and Responsibilities

Summary

Overall responsibility for managing a Product or Product category, owning the sales, growth and long term profit & loss. Responsibilities range from product launch, creation and management of Supplier Vendor networks, driving merchandizing & sales strategies and providing leadership / direction to the BD team involved in managing the Product.

Vendor network management& operations

a) Set up and manage a vendor relations team which would do the following:

    a. Recognize sources and set up Vendor Accounts for daily business

    b. Negotiate with vendors for better pricing  and deals for our customers

b) Provide direction in creation of an effective network of Supplier Vendors, ensuring agility and “speed to market” of the concerned Product

c) Create a comprehensive Vendor management governance framework, defining – terms of association, pricing and payments, service level measures, service tracking methodologies, rewards & penalties, communication etc. The framework shall ensure that the Vendor’s approach and services are aligned to optimize the Product availability and sales

d) Complete Ownership of Product Catalogue data & pricing

e) Provide direction to team to set systems of effective co-ordination and collaboration with internal teams like operations, website, customer support, catalogue team etc. for category specific requirements

f) Put in processes & metrics to help scaling up

g) Apply Technology to solve problems and build scale wherever possible

h) Identifying and solving the challenges of the industry such as Data, Margins, and Supply etc.

i) Drive Relationships with Key Accounts and Brands

Merchandising and Sales strategy

a) Drive mid and long term strategies around market potential, competitor intelligence, pricing options. Leverage various methodologies including research, analytics, professional networks to drive such strategies

b) Provide a business point of view and sustainable solutions / recommendations to aid decision making

c) Create a sustainable business model in the category for ongoing business

d) Identify the growth areas and new business scope within the existing category

e) Constantly improve customer offers, product pricing and product data

Team development and management

a) Provide overall direction and drive to resource planning, staffing (hiring or internal movements) and overall team management

b) Provide guidance to establish effective career management processes for the team ensuring – performance assessment, feedback, career growth opportunities aligned to performance and potential

c) Drive the desired culture and cohesiveness within the team

Profile / Background

a) Educational background from IITs or/and  IIMs (or similar select Tier 1 institutes)

b) 4-5 years of work experience

 - Complete ownership of the category and the Business Goals

 - Experience of handling and building a team
