AVP/ Associate, Valuation Risk Management

Financial Risk Management (FRM) oversees all financial market and credit risks that arise throughout Swiss Re Group, from its core reinsurance businesses and the related investment and asset-liability matching activities.

Within FRM, the Valuation Risk Management (VRM) is a global team whose core mission statement is to ensure that valuations reflected in financial statements are in line with accounting requirements and industry best practice.

Valuation Risk Management: Valuations assigned to financial instruments play a key role in understanding our portfolio and enabling appropriate decisions to be made. Valuations feed into our accounts, are at the core of P/L, determine the calibration of models, and form a key part of risk assessment. Inaccurate valuations distort the decision making process, and so it is clear that controls ensuring appropriate valuations are an essential part of the firm's operations.

To ensure the firm is utilizing appropriate valuations, Swiss Re has developed an Independent Price Verification (IPV) process that formally assesses the quality of our valuations and acts to correct any issues.

The opportunity

Perform Independent Price Verification [IPV] on various asset classes.

Analyze valuation signals from market, vendors, brokers, and/or counter parties

Identify and assessing valuation risks with respect to materiality, complexity (e.g. models versus market prices)

Prepare final reports for Pricing and Valuation Committee and Senior RiskCo, reporting overall IPV control on MoM basis

IPV Population control (matching IPV population with Swiss Re Financial report) and reconciliation

Support enhancements of existing IPV processes, tools, methodologies to ensure robust control environment

Requirements

- Candidate should be B.Tech/Engineering/Mathematics degree with MBA-Finance/FRM/CFA.

- 4-6 (AVP/Associate) years' experience in the valuations space or product control. 2-3 yrs. of experience in IPV function is a must.

- Perform Independent Price Verification for various asset classes on a monthly basis.

- Investigate pricing / model uncertainty /market data uncertainty in methodology and parameters used in pricing and recommend appropriate adjustments.

- Perform analysis on various market movements which can affect securities price and report trends proactively to Senior committees.

- Hands on experience with Bloomberg in key markets data sets & using pricing functions.

- Hands on experience with MS Excel/Access with experience in dealing with VBA macros.

- In-depth knowledge of asset classes worked is a must.

- Detailed knowledge of financial instrument valuation and risks measurement in a complex product area, with particular regards to derivatives.

- Experience of working in a markets investment banking environment either in a finance valuation or trading\structuring capacity.

- Experience of producing detailed analysis to demanding deadlines and clearly communicating the result to senior management.
