About Avanti

Avanti is a social enterprise established by IIT alumni in 2010 to help bright students from low income homes gain admission to India's top colleges. At present, we have 60 full-time employees and 250+ volunteers at 10 top college campuses (including 5 IITs). We currently operate 13 learning centers across 10 locations in India and teach 600+ high school students science and math. Our centers implement a unique peer collaboration pedagogy developed by the Dean of Applied Physics at

Harvard, Prof. Eric Mazur, who serves as Avanti's chief academic advisor. We teach students to learn from books, videos and their peers - resources that are abundant, accessible and consistent in quality. Additionally, students are provided focused doubt solving by academic experts. This blended learning pedagogy allows us to deliver quality education at a fraction of the cost of traditional education models.

Avanti is a PanIIT Alumni India initiative, winner of the Stanford BASES Social E-Challenge 2010 and recipient of the Echoing Green, Ashoka and Draper Richards Kaplan Fellowships.

Overview of the Role:

Avanti currently runs learning centres either as standalone entities or in partnership with schools in urban India (Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kanpur). In 2015, we plan to expand our work beyond these 4 metros to Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns.

The Program Manager is responsible for managing operations in our existing learning centres and school partnerships and expanding our operations in both existing and new locations.

Requirements:

- A passion for education

- An undergraduate degree in science or engineering from a top college/university

- Exceptional leadership and management skills with a proven track record

- Self-driven individuals with a strong work ethic

- The ability to connect with, inspire and motivate students

Key Responsibilities

Learning Centre Management:

- Recruit, train and manage a team of Program Associates (Facilitators) to run classroom sessions for students in up to 4 Learning Centres (~300 students in total) through Avanti's unique pedagogy

- Ensure adherence to cost budgets and achievement of revenue targets for the learning centres

Culture-building and Mentoring:

- Instill a healthy learning culture where students display a high degree of ownership for their studies and actively collaborate with each other

- Inspire students through frequent one-on-one interactions and build a strong relationship with both the students and their parents

Classroom management and Tutoring:

- Lead and contribute to weekly class discussions, provide timely responses to students, understand what problems students face and develop solutions to those problems

- Moderate peer discussions on Avanti's e-learning platform for collaborative learning

- Conduct weekly doubt solving classes for students to address their queries related to topics covered in class
