Associate Director - Indirect Taxation - CA - eCommerce (8-18 yrs)

Key responsibilities

- Lead the Indirect Taxation function. The incumbent will be responsible to ensure 100% statutory compliance for all Indirect taxation related matters (VAT, CST, Service Tax, Excise, LBT & Customs etc). He/She will be responsible to provide guidance to business in performing transactions and contracts to maximise tax benefits.

- As head of Indirect taxation, he/she will be responsible to set up the function in appropriate manner and work with external consultants regularly to keep the organisation and self, updated on changing regulatory environment. The person will also be responsible to make compliance as & when the law gets enacted.

- He/She should be highly business & customer oriented. This role will require some amount of travel on need basis across key cities in India.

Work Description:

- To be continuously updated on the laws, acts, policies governing all Indirect Taxes and to ensure 100% compliance.

- To ensure that the Company is aware of all relevant/applicable fiscal benefits and to lead evaluation of decisions involving such benefits

- To implement systems and processes which drive and ensure compliance to applicable statutes and rules.

- To ensure that all compliance to laws and proceedings of assessments/appeals are done on time and with due protection of company's interests

- To closely interact with and advise all the business/Department heads and ensure that they are adequately equipped to understand issues relating to indirect taxes.

- To appropriately interface with external agencies and maintain working relationships with the key officials

- Representing in the industry forum, making representations and submissions to the ministry, tax board etc.

- Effective management of the In-house tax department

- Timely and effective completion of tax assessments / appeals including.

- Coordination with the tax consultants across the country and ensure timely and effective compliance and support to business.

- Effective handling of tax audits, VAT audits, liasoning with statutory auditors, handling of tax queries, investigations and audits.

- Ensure Indirect tax compliance across multiple warehouses and states in which Flipkart operate.

- Develop suitable network of local support to liaise regularly with state authorities

- Guide and prepare SOP for logistics operations & Warehouse operations team to ensure compliance

- Responsible for giving various tax advice to internal customers on various matters such VAT/Excise/Customs Service Tax implications on special projects, procurement / Logistics Marketing etc.

- Work closely with Head of regulatory affairs and logistics head to pursue case for e-commerce friendly policies by various governments especially in wake of GST.

- Prepare company for GST readiness and support right SOP and processes to ensure smooth transition.

- Finalize Business/ Commercial models to minimize indirect tax impact as per law.

Education and Experience :

- CA with atleast 9+ years of experience in the field of Indirect taxation working closely with operations is a Add on.

- Good knowledge & understanding of all aspects of Indirect Taxation - VAT, CST, Service Tax, LBT, Excise, Customs, etc

- Must have worked hands-on in all areas of Indirect Taxation and must have led a team of at least 8 to 10 people. Should have handled multi location operations & multi location teams.

- Strong leadership in managing external consultants and professional relationships.

- Proven ability to leverage strong analytical, supervisory and management skills throughout organization.

- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally, ability to establish and accomplish objectives within a corporate environment.

- Demonstrated initiative in working independently with minimal direction; ability to prioritize competing demands and make decisions consistent with corporate goals and objectives.
