Job Grade: Asst. Manager (Manufacturing Engineering)
Reporting to (job title): General Manager - Manufacturing Engineering.
Based in (location): Kalol,Baroda

Overall purpose of job:
- Ensure that the manufacturing needs of the plant with respect to production capacity, quality, facility & safe operations are assessed, planned and provided.
- Execute continuous improvement of the manufacturing processes and systems for improvement in productivity, quality, cost and safety.
- Process and Equipment planning
- Project Planning: Green Field project execution
- Manufacturing Engineering: Process Planning ,Product planning. Equipment Procurement, Design Approval, Installation, Commissioning and Trial run Off. Training and Continuous Improvements.
- Industrial Engineering: Operational Analysis, Manufacturing System Design, Line Balancing, Man power planning, Man power utilizion
- Production: Manpower Allocation, Training, Motivation, Manpower Management
Main activities/tasks:
- Decide Process flow and manufacturing parameters.
- Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements and work flow for maximum efficiency.
- Benchmarking and purpose process improvements.
- Assess manufacturing capabilities and economics.
- Cost reduction activities e.g. Make or Buy decision, material selection.
- Support to zero defect and cycle time reduction programs & provide support for quality improvement activities
- Process Specification Charts, Process Validation Report, Process flow.
- Conduct Time Study, Method Study and other Industrial Engineering Tools.
- Interaction with production/user dept. to understand requirements for upgradation
- Interaction with purchase for procurement of required parts
- Issue Guidelines for manning and long-term manpower plans.
- Study & implement new processes and Technology Transfer.
- Train the user departments and prepare technical documentation.
- Gauges & fixture designing (CAD), Vendor development, Calibration & system Management of Gauges
- Technical negotiations, Asset Management- Facility creation, maintenance & upgradation
Special requirements (tools and equipment used etc.):
- Exposure to modern Quality Techniques like 7 QC tools, Six Sigma, SAP awareness, PPAP, APQP , ISO/TS 16949 etc.
- Hands on experience in AutoCAD/ProE for concept design of factory layouts, tools, fixtures and gages in 2D and 3D
Other features of job: travel, working conditions, etc. Occasional travel to vendor's place / parent plant, etc..
Knowledge and skills:
- Must have good knowledge related to designing concepts of tools, jigs & fixtures, gages for assembly processes.
- Must have good understanding of engineering drawings & GD&T
- Must understand and be able to conduct method & time study.
- Must have the knowledge of lean manufacturing, TPM, etc.
- Must be able to apply the industrial engineering techniques for improvement of space, productivity.
- Must have knowledge of ergonomic principles to design assembly processes ensuring safety of operators.
- Must have basic understanding of manufacturing processes (Machining, Stamping, Forging, Casting, and Assembly etc.), the controlling process parameters and their effects on product.
- Must have understanding and application skill of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA, Control Plan.
- Must have hands on experience in preparation of documents and reports related ME function using computer viz. capacity analysis, new equipment justification, etc. A fair command in English is essential for preparation of reports.
Education, qualifications, and special training:
- B.Tech - Mechanical/Production Engg.
- Specialization in Engineering technology/MBA would be an added advantage.
Experience:
- Hands on Working in manufacturing engineering / Industrial engineering / projects management in automotive industry for 6-10 years.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes viz. Assembly, machining, press operations.
