Description of Role:

Global Analytics Centre (GAC) provides analytics support to various group businesses and functions. Typical deliverables include data analysis, providing analytics insights, model development, validation, calibration, strategy development, monitoring and reporting, information management and business intelligence. The deliverables form the basis for strategic planning by the senior management for businesses and enables effective decision making to satisfy business needs and requirements along with addressing unforeseen challenges.

GAC Regulatory and Risk Analytics (GAC RRA-WCMR) team is a dedicated service delivery wing serving Group Wholesale Credit and Market Risk (WCMR) function across regions. The Team is comprised of four main functions:-

- Model development

- Model validation and management

- Portfolio (including stress testing and IFRS9) and decisioning analytics

- Economic capital

- RRA Projects and policy consulting unit

This role within the Decision Sciences job family supports the Group economic capital function. The role requires leading the central economic capital hub team that is responsible for credit risk economic capital methodology, analysis, reporting and standardization for all major regions.

Role Purpose (overall high level summary of the role)

The role will be pivotal towards driving a consistent approach towards measuring economic capital for the Group. Based out of a central hub in GAC, there are significant opportunities in driving the standardization of data, metrics and methodology for Group EC calculation.

Principal Accountabilities: Key activities and decision making areas

- This role is expected to work along with regions towards incorporating economic capital as an integral measure in risk appetite and business decision making (planned).

- Key responsibility is to work with stake holders and business partners in Group, North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Middle East and has responsibility for executing, testing & delivery of the quarterly credit risk economic capital production cycle, the final output of which is reported to the group and regional regulators (PRA, HKMA etc.) via the ICAAP and to the senior management via the group and regional stress testing and economic capital committees (STECC).

- The role also requires supporting migration of the current varied economic capital processes and methodology at the regions mentioned above with the aim of suggesting, agreeing and implementing a standardized credit EC calculation and reporting framework across regions.

- Knowledge and understanding of portfolio risk drivers, their use and impact on capital requirements; knowledge of regulatory capital and its components ; concepts of portfolio concentration and diversification

- Help build a good relationship with the business probing and understanding their needs and identify areas of improvement to enhance current information infrastructure.

Customers / Stakeholders:

- Support EC projects and focus on delivery.

- The responsibility of this role is also to work with regions towards incorporating economic capital as an integral measure in risk appetite and business decision making (planned).

- The role also entails working with external software vendors like Moody's KMV on implementation, support and understanding of vendor software, training and other related aspects.

Leadership & Teamwork:

- Strengthen risk management by producing high quality credit risk economic capital methodology, analysis and reporting. Capable of informing and driving business decision making.

- Liaising with colleagues to analyse and interpret crystallized or emerging risk events, establishing underlying root causes and effective future mitigation.

- Fostering a risk aware culture by the routine embedding of risk considerations into all analysis and reporting.

The objective is to develop consistent project management, governance and documentation practices which will drive consistency across the wholesale credit and traded risk analytics priorities.

Qualifications:

- Masters in Economics / Statistics / relevant discipline OR

- MBA with focus in Finance OR

- MCA / BTech in Engineering

Skills and Experience:

- Preferably 1-2 years of analytics experience in banking domain / regulatory risk analytics/ capital management.

- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills.

- Good understanding of - banking industry, knowledge of different banking portfolios & related risk management practices, Basel & other Regulatory standards.

- Good understanding of macroeconomic variables/trends and its potential impact on both retail and wholesale portfolio performance.

- Strong communication (written/verbal) and presentation skills essential. Excellent communication skills with technical (the team) and non-technical (senior entity management around the globe) counterparts.

- Ability to produce clear summaries and reports from complex factual information, including both written documentation and graphical material.
