Analyst - Consumer Practice Growth Analytics Team

Overview Of Position :

McKinsey Knowledge Center, India is looking for an Analyst with past experience in the research and analytics space for the Consumer Practice team. The Analyst is expected to split his/her time across developing proprietary McKinsey knowledge and working with consultants and client service teams across the globe on market analytics (such as category growth models, country profit analytics, etc) issues, including data mining as well as proprietary tool development. The Analyst would be located at McKinsey Knowledge Center, in Gurgaon, India, with some travel dependent on project assignment.

Career growth from this position could be either on a specialist track focusing on content leadership or a managerial track focusing on people leadership.

McKinsey Knowledge Center is the largest hub of the Firm's knowledge network accounting for a quarter of the 1,300 knowledge professionals in the Firm. The knowledge professionals at the center play an important role in our consulting engagements and are organized into three service lines - Practice Research, Knowledge on Call and Analytics.

Analysts help our consultants solve complex data intensive business problems by leveraging specialized tools and techniques for data analysis and modeling. The Practice research team recruiting for this role will be working with consultants in a gamut of projects ranging from growth strategy to country deep dives to developing proprietary tools for consumer facing clients.

Responsibilities :

The individual would spend his/her time working at the interface of the Consumer Practice Growth Analytics/Research Group and consulting teams in McKinsey helping solve analytically complex client problems e.g. developing consumer demand models for clients across categories.

Specifically, he/she will be expected to perform the following roles :

- Perform modeling in client engagements (such as the development of consumer demand model). For example :

- Define data requirements for creating a model and understand the business problem;

- Clean, aggregate, analyze and interpret data and statistical modeling output;

- Provide expert advice to consulting teams on technique/modeling related issues

- Support development and maintenance of proprietary McKinsey market analysis techniques and other knowledge development projects

- Own and run specific proprietary tools

- Support large scale roll-out of tools as required

- Supporting knowledge development and proprietary knowledge projects

- Summarize, synthesize research findings in a client ready format

- The individual could also spend a part of his/her time playing a similar role on client problems outside the core consumer domain, in situations involving intensive data analysis and modeling.

Knowledge & Skills Required :

We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated both a strong business sense and deep understanding of the quantitative foundations of data modeling.

Candidates must also possess the following hallmarks of excellent problem solving skills, team skills, entrepreneurial ability, and strong communication skills :

- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to disaggregate issues, identify root causes and recommend solutions.

- Good written and verbal communication skills. Fluent in both written and spoken English; prior experience in a multi-national environment desirable.

- Flexibility, patience, and an understanding of fluid, demanding, and unstructured environments where priorities evolve constantly and methodologies are regularly challenged.

- Ability to work under pressure and deliver on tight deadlines; energetic, cooperative and pleasant personality.

In addition, successful execution of this role will also need high levels of technical expertise.

Candidates should have exposure (and some degree of expertise) to some of the following tools and techniques:

- Standard modeling techniques like time series analysis, regressions (linear, logistic), forecasting, cluster analysis, etc

- Knowledge of core analytical tools - SAS (preferred), SPSS (a plus)

- Existing advanced ability in Excel, Access, power point or the capability and willingness to develop this (Current average ability level in Excel and power-point is a pre-requisite)

Education & Previous Experience Required :

- Commerce/ Economics graduate, BBA, BBS. Masters degree will be a plus

- 1.5-2 years of professional work experience with a reputed research/ analytics firm

- Past experience in modeling (consumer segment oriented modeling a plus)

- Demonstrated ability to handle large and complex sets of data and analysis
