Identify improvement opportunities in existing businesses:

- This entails understanding and analyzing every business’s current performance (including competitive benchmarking) and identifying key areas that offer opportunities for improvement.

- Depending on the state of the business, this could be a sizeable effort or marginal effort.

Facilitate ongoing business planning & reviews (monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc):

- This entails managing the process/calendar for rhythmic business planning events and business reviews with the Chairman.

- Close interaction with the business team is crucial to ensure that Chairman has effective and efficient meetings.

- This also includes managing external relationships on behalf of the Chairman (e.g., Board members, JV partners, strategic investors).

Suggest/Assess longer-term strategic imperatives for existing businesses:

- This entails, primarily, evaluation of growth ideas presented by the businesses (e.g., an expansion, new line of business, an acquisition opportunity).

- In some cases, it might also include proactively generating growth ideas that the business hasn’t thought about (or the business is averse to).

Assess options for entry into new businesses:

- This entails constant endeavour to find growth opportunities for the group through ongoing scanning of trends. It may require collaboration with other corporate functions like CFG and CSBD.

Special projects:

- Anything that comes up on the Chairman’s agenda during the course of the year that isn’t covered in the goals above.
