Roles and Responsibilities:

To work under the direction of a Qualified Actuary or other more senior team members to support the UK Operation, as an Actuarial Analyst you will be required to undertake numerical analysis and manipulation using a range of systems and actuarial tools.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Ability to understand Actuarial calculations based documents and respond to straightforward technical queries.

- Detailed Analysis of the Calculations Specification, Illustration Specs, Product Specification and Business Requirement Specification (BRS) for new products and major changes to existing products.

- Develop new (or update) spreadsheets to implement calculation method developed by the Actuarial Product Development, which will act as a tool to generate the expected results for functional testing. Spreadsheets may include VBA coding

- Ability to carry out allocated work on Deterministic / Stochastic models

- Strong team player, with ability to work in a team or on a project single handed

- Carry out work to an agreed plan, producing deliverables in an agreed timescale

- Good level of interpersonal and networking skills, to develop effective working relationships with team colleagues and internal/external business contacts.

- Ability to identify and understand business issues, and understand the impact on the business of proposed solutions

Secondary Responsibilities:

- Maintain an ‘audit trail’ and version control to demonstrate the adequacy of the spreadsheet controls for future enhancements to the product.

- Draft and maintain up-to-date, appropriate documentation and checklists for any processes that are implemented.

- Ability to audit, identify and discuss defects, record them and subsequent fixes

- Monitor business and external developments related to own area of responsibility and propose subsequent changes to established procedures.

- Liaise with development, business and systems support teams

- Work in a structured and logical way with a high degree of accuracy.

Seek and act on opportunities to develop technical and business understanding.

Competence / Knowledge / Skills required:

Essential

- A numerical based degree or Post Graduate qualification

- Should have cleared 0-5 Actuarial papers, and must meet minimum requirements of Study Support Policy in order to get Study Support (for Actuarial Trainees only)

- Some technical understanding of various tools and techniques used eg: Excel, Visual Basic, Moses/Prophet coding and or other relevant Actuarial applications

- Track record of being a fast learner as evidenced by job performance (and exam progress for Trainees), with some knowledge of significant regulatory processes within Prudential operations

- Awareness of the Financial Services Industry and regulatory environment, and a reasonable knowledge of Prudential’s products, with hands on experience of working on at least 1 insurance product

- Good knowledge of the Insurance business with ability to understand Actuarial terms and calculations. Should not have dependencies on the type of project or location in the business.

- Some understanding and knowledge of actuarial procedures

- Ability to interpret simple actuarial formulae

- A tenacious attitude with a thorough and methodical approach to work

- Good team player – the execution stage is crucial to the success of the project and it is essential to be able to contribute fully to the team effort

- Strong communication skills – written and verbal

- Good level of interpersonal and networking skills

- Ability to confidently express own view point and to clearly and simply communicate actuarial issues within their team

Preferable / Desirable

- Up to 2 years of relevant actuarial work experience

- Some experience and knowledge of Actuarial modelling tools like PROPHET / MoSes / Excel VBA

- Potential to develop good leadership skills

- Resourceful in finding solutions and identifying sources of help and information

- Good planning and problem solving skills

- Flexible approach to responsibilities, working hours, and some travel to UK will be required

- Should have the ability to think out-of-the-box and be able to arrive at robust solutions.
