JOB DESCRIPTION - ACADEMIC DIRECTOR/ HEAD OF LEARNING AND INNOVATION  ORGANIZATION  Jayn Knowledgeum, a new venture to set up K-12 schools through franchise/ strategic partnership route promoted by JGI Group  BACKGROUND ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION  Founded as an educational institution group in the early 1990s, JGI Group today has over 85 educational institutions with 60,000 students, and is committed to human development at all levels through education and entrepreneurship.  The group is now planning to increase its schools footprint (currently 28 K-12 schools) by adopting an asset-light model of expansion. In the next five years, JGI Group looks to add about 70 - 75 new schools spread across 6-7 states. The group has formed a new venture, Jayn Knowledgeum, to set up these K-12 schools through franchise/strategic partnership route.  Jayn Knowledgeum is an independent SBU that would launch new brand(s) of K-12 schools in the market. It will leverage the best practices of the existing network of schools and draw upon JGI's culture and values. It will offer a varied set of services to franchise/ strategic partners such as school set-up assistance, curriculum and pedagogy support, teacher training and professional development support, technology solution for school administration, assistance in recruitment of principal and senior teachers, and assistance in other areas of school operations.  It also plans to forge strategic collaborations in areas of curriculum/ pedagogy and technology to offer its partners, academic solution embedded in research to facilitate student learning and technology support system to enable effective school administration.  Jayn Knowledgeum would focus to forge, sustain and grow partnerships by offering product/ service offerings that bring real value to the partners.  POSITION  Academic Director/ Head of Learning and Innovation  REPORTING TO  Chief Executive Officer/ equivalent position and Leadership Board  TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT - Full Time  LOCATION - Bangalore  POSITION DESCRIPTION - IN BRIEF  Academic Director/ Head of Learning and Innovation would be responsible for:  - designing the academic blueprint of the school network in alignment with the vision of the promoters and value proposition of the brand  - product Development - work with curriculum development partners in the initial phase and create an IP over a period of time  - designing teacher/principal training module and conduct training  - recruitment of principals and key teachers  - providing inputs on design of school infrastructure to enhance learning  ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  - Value Proposition and Learning Philosophy  Define the core philosophy of learning in alignment with vision, mission, goal and value proposition of the new entity through discussions with the CEO and the promoters  Provide inputs to marketing team on key elements of the curriculum and pedagogy  - Strategic Planning  Work with JGI management to give inputs on priority areas while drawing up long term and annual strategic plan for the group's expansion  Apprise the JGI management on latest developments/research in the product/service offerings in the market and provide strategic inputs for group's growth  - Organizational leadership  Play a pivotal role in leading the institution by modeling integrity, vision and ethical behavior  Recruit and build the academic/product development team  Provide inputs to source candidates for Principals and teachers  Support operational team in recruitment and selection of Principals and teachers  - Product Development  Crystalize product offering(s) to be taken to the market in consultation with CEO and the promoters  Develop a pipeline of product/service offerings that JGI can take to the market over a defined time period  Develop the product development roadmap in consultation with CEO  Overall responsibility of product development - curriculum definition, content and pedagogy design, development and deployment  Evaluate and finalize external partner(s) for academic solution development and technology support in consultation with CEO and promoters  Work closely with the selected academic partners(s) for on time development and deployment of product/service offerings  - Inputs on infrastructure development and procurement  Provide inputs on design of school infrastructure to enhance/supplement learning and  Provide inputs on procurement of learning and teaching aids and other equipment for the schools  - Academic Delivery  Keep abreast of current trends and developments in education and ensure JGI remains a leader in academics and innovation.  Work with principals and teachers to plan the academic calendar for the schools   Ensure standard operating procedures are being followed by all teachers  Work closely with principals to understand their day to day challenges and help them resolve the same and become more effective school administrators  Evaluate academic performance of each franchise/partner school and provide necessary training and inputs to help them improve their effectiveness  Promote data analysis and ensure student-learning data is central to instructional and school level decision-making  - Professional Development of school leaders and teachers  Develop a structured training programme for principals/school leaders and teachers to address their professional development needs  Conduct/oversee conduct of training programme across school network  Refine training programme based on feedback from the participants and latest developments in the teacher/school leader professional development space  - Academic Research  Researching best practices for content creation, blended learning, and adaptive learning  Design an assessment to measure the effectiveness of curriculum, teaching methodologies adopted and continuously assess and make necessary changes/additions to improve effectiveness  Constantly research for the best practices on curriculum, content, technology and teaching methodologies and incorporate the same in the existing academic capability of the organization  - Other Areas  Assist Principals in providing parents with information regarding key elements of the curriculum and pedagogy  Provide ongoing support and training to Principals to help them communicate and address concerns of parents in a better way  Serve as a liaison between administration, admissions, marketing, and parents to ensure all stakeholders develop an accurate understanding of the schools mission, vision, and academic and extracurricular offerings.  QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS  Essential:  - 10-15 years of proven experience in the field of K-12 education/preschool/publishing/curriculum development with at least five years in a senior academic leadership role (Academic Director/ Product Development Head/ Curriculum and Content Development lead/ Head of Research & Development/ Learning and Innovation/ other senior positions)  - Experience of having a built a new product/innovative curriculum and pedagogy from scratch and a sound understanding of academic product development lifecycle  - Sound understanding of different philosophies of learning in schools  - Abreast with latest developments in curriculum and pedagogy in India and abroad  - Sound understanding of academic quality assurance and enhancement issues  - Proven skills in integration of technology in teaching/learning process  - Excellent communication skills - both written and oral  - A commitment to collaboration and shared leadership  - Problem solving skills with an ability to lead a team and align them towards a common goal  Desirable:  - Post-graduate in preferably Education  - Product Development Head in large product company in K-12 space or an Academic Director or Head of Research & Development/ Learning and Innovation of a company with a large network of K12 schools.
