General responsibilities
Build an SAP India Government Relations office and program, closely aligned with SAP India strategy and with the SAP India President.
Develop strong relationships and shared vision with the company’s senior business leaders, establishing a common global and Indian Government Relations mission, thereby creating and delivering competitive strengths to the organization.
Advise senior officers on all matters relating to government legislation and public policy issues of interest and concern to SAP.
Work closely with EU, US and Berlin-based counterparts to develop Indian strategies that ensure that SAP is properly positioned to enjoy a leadership position in its respective area/industry.
Be a proactive strategic agent on behalf of SAP’s interests and help set the agenda, form the agenda and shape future agendas.
Build and manage working relationships with external lobbyists and GR agencies.
Specific Responsibilities
1. Business / Strategic
Develop and operationalize a GR Business Development strategy and business plan for India, integrated into the SAP India business strategy and regional Asian Public Sector business pipeline.
Map key players in government and develop a road map and campaign for targeted relationship building and lobbying with these key influencers.
Engage in key policymaking bodies with industry representation, seek integration into government IT agenda setting.
Identify and participate in key industry associations, political and diplomatic networks.
2. Policy Issue Management
Map key policy issues which could pose a threat to SAP business.
Develop an action plan for targeted proactive representation (in coordination with SAP AG) in key policy influencing organizations
Provide counsel to management on potential policy issue threats
3. Thought Leadership
Conduct an audit of key decision-makers for benchmarking SAP awareness and understanding. Identify key pressure points.
Develop a communications strategy with local management and corporate
Government Relations for raising awareness of SAP in political circles.
Develop a representation strategy to increase participation of SAP in relevant industry and business associations, represent SAP in these organizations.
Use relevant messaging to increase awareness of SAP in key political media (ads, interviews, statements)

d. Industry Associations Professional Experience / Qualifications
The successful candidate will have 10-15 years of experience as a government relations executive, a government legislator, or as a senior public servant in a relevant government department, agency or business. Specific information technology experience as well as international affairs experience would be an asset.
Previous experience and qualifications should include:
Significant management experience.
A good working knowledge of information technology issues and the ability to quickly grasp the other technical issues facing SAP.
A thorough understanding of government policy-making processes, at national and provincial levels.
Good relationships with both the Democrat Party of India, and Liberal Democrat Party
Experience in managing professionals, staff members and consultants effectively, as well as appropriately advising/influencing senior-level corporate executives.
Understanding of international issues and how a company can strategically face the challenges of the global market
Specific software or technology infrastructure industry experience is greatly preferred but not absolutely necessary; however, a strong technology industry background in a closely related field is a clear must.
Knowledge of and/or experience in operating in a public company environment, with the ability to effectively manage public scrutiny, crisis communications and media attention.
Fluency in English.

Education
An undergraduate degree is required. An advance degree such as a Juris Doctor or Masters
of Business Administration is highly desirable.

Dotted reporting line to SAP India management
Regular reporting schedule defined by Corporate Government Relations
Agency co-management with GR
